For Western Michigan fans, that may be a welcome sight.
The Broncos will open its home slate against Idaho Saturday after spending the first two weeks of their 2017 season playing a talented Big Ten team, followed by match-up against the nation’s No. 4-ranked program.
WMU acquitted . . .
Idaho is coming off a 44-16 loss against UNLV. That broke a six-game winning streak, going back to last year. The Vandals dumped Sacramento State in Week One, 28-6.
● Senior QB Matt Linehan is completing 67.9 percent of his passes. He has passed for three TDs and has been picked off three times. Opponents have sacked Linehan five times.
● Senior Jacob Sannon leads the receiving corps with 15 touches for 151 yards and a score. Classmate Reuben Mwehla has 10 receptions for 83 yards and a team-high two touchdowns.
● Aaron Duckworth leads the ground game with 37 carries for 224 yards (6.1 ypc). He has one rushing touchdown and three receptions, including a long of 49 yards.
WESTERN MICHIGAN BRONCOS (0-2)
● CB Darius Phillips showed part of what’s special about Bronco special teams when he took a fourth quarter kick return 100 yards last week to forge a 28-28 tie before SC went on to win.
● Sophomore quarterback Jon Wasskink has completed just 22 of 48 passes (45.8%) against some tough competition to date. He has no TD passes and tossed two picks.
● The potent WMU running attack has three threats: Sophomore Levante Bellamy (21 carries, 169 yards, 8.0 ypc); junior Jamauri Bogan (25 carries, 107 yards, 4.1 ypc, 1 TD); and senior Jarvion Franklin (18 carries, 76 yards, 4.2 ypc)
● DB Dustin Tranquil and LB Asantay Brown combined for 15 tackles to lead the defense at Southern Cal. Brown owned one of two Bronco sacks on the day.
