This year's class features a lot of homegrown talent. Seven student-athletes list their hometowns within the state of Ohio, five from the City of Akron and two within a 20-mile radius of campus.

One of the signees— redshirt sophomore QB Nick Johns (Leesburg, Va.)— enrolled in classes in January 2017.
The signing class also features several high school teammates. Defensive lineman DeAndre Brimage and RB Jemarulin Suggs attend Akron's East High School, while DL Eric Bentley and WR Malik Wooldridge hail from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.
Akron begins spring practice on March 10. The Zips, who return 53 letterwinners and 12 starters, open the 2017 season at Penn State on Sept. 2.
