Cleveland, Ohio - The  Mid-American Conference on Wednesday announced the All-MAC Teams & Specialty Award selections for the 2020-21 season. All of the awards were voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.

Toledo’s Marreon Jackson was named the MAC Player of the Year, while Rockets Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk earned Coach of the Year accolades. UT’s Ryan Rollins was tabbed Freshman of the Year, while Buffalo's Josh Mballa (Defensive Player of the Year) & Bowling Green’s Trey Diggs (Sixth Man of the Year) rounded out this year's specialty award selections.

NIU taps Burno to lead hoops program

DeKALB, Ill. – Rashon Burno, who has spent the last six seasons at Arizona State, including the last five as associate head coach, was announced as the new Northern Illinois University men’s basketball head coach by NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. ​•  While six MAC games were schedule for Friday, two were cancelled.
Those contests are Ohio at Bowling Green and Miami at Akron. 
Friday's contests close the regular season, allowing the completion of a a bracket for next week's Mid-American Conference tournament.  Eight teams qualified and quarterfinal action begins Thursday in Cleveland.

• All eight teams (Toledo, Akron, Kent State, Buffalo, Ohio, Bowling Green, Miami & Ball State) have clinched a spot in the upcoming MAC Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Rockets  (No. 8) and Zips (No. 19) are currently ranked in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.

​• A total of three MAC Men’s Basketball programs are ranked within the Top 100 of the latest NCAA NET Rankings. Those listed in the Top 100 include Toledo (62), Buffalo (82) and Kent State (95).

• Toledo (19-7, 14-4 MAC) will look to cap off its regular season with a Senior Night victory on national television when it hosts Ball State (10-11, 8-8 MAC) on Friday, March 5. The contest will be televised on the CBS Sports Network and tip off in Savage Arena at 7:00 p.m. The Rockets have already secured their first regular-season Mid-American Conference championship since 2013-14 and ninth in program history. Toledo also will be the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament for the first time since its 2006-07 campaign.

• Buffalo is set to close out the regular season on Friday evening when the Bulls host Kent State at Alumni Arena.  Both the Bulls and Golden Flashes have clinched a berth in the upcoming MAC Tournament, but the winner of Friday’s game will claim the number two seed. The Bulls have won four straight games, their longest winning streak of the season and seven of their last eight games dating back to Feb. 2.

• Kent State improved to 15-6 overall and 12-5 in MAC play  after coming away with a 64-51 victory over Miami.  The Flashes held the Miami RedHawks to just six points in the final 11 minutes of the game. Kent State was led by its three bigs who all scored in double-figures with Tervell Beck leading the way with his first double-double of the season with a career-high 19 points and 11 rebounds. Danny Pippen notched his ninth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
