Akron unable to tame Wildcats; fall in NCAA opener

SEATTLE, WA -- The Arizona Wildcats (23-12) showed why they are a No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament, putting on a dominating display Friday while knocking off No. 13 seed Akron (28-7) 93-65 at Climate Pledge Arena.

Akron rallies late to claim title, NCAA berth

CLEVELAND, OH -- Nate Johnson's fast-break floater in the lane with two seconds left gave top-seeded Akron (28-6, 17-1 MAC) a 76-74 win over Miami (25-9, 14-4 MAC) Saturday at Rocket Arena as the Zips claimed a second straight Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament title.
Akron, which defeated the RedHawks 102-75 in their regular season meeting, trailed by double digits for much of Saturday's game. Thriving on an early 3-point barrage (10 of 18) in the opening period, MU led by 18 before taking a 46-34 lead to intermission.

It's Akron vs Miami: Top two seeds advance to title game

No. 1 Akron and No. 2 Miami demonstrated their mettle Friday, with each pulling away late to record victories in MAC Men's Basketball Tournament semifinal action at Rocket Arena.
The surviving pair will meet Saturday for the tourney title. That championship contest will tip off at 7:30 p.m. (ESPN2). The winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Kent State fends off Bronco challenges

CLEVELAND, OH -- Senior guard Marquis Barnett scored 18 points to lead third-seeded Kent State past Western Michigan 73-66 Thursday at Rocket Arena.
With their win, the Flashes advance to Friday's semifinal matchup against No. 2 seeded Miami. The RedHawks defeated Eastern Michigan in Game Three earlier Thursday.
It was the third staight win and fourth in five games for KSU.
KSU and WMU were tied at 16 midway through the first half. Barnett's jumper at 9:38 moved Kent State in front and the Flashes quickly expanded their lead to 18 points (43-25) by intermission.

Depth pays off again as Miami downs Eagles

RedHawks to face Kent State in Friday semi-final

CLEVELAND, OH -- In a game where so many stats reflected a close and fierce battle, three stats stood out in illuminating the Miami RedHawks, who edged Eastern Michigan 81-75 Thursday in Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament action at Rocket Arena.
It was MU's fourth straight win, but more importantly the program's first MAC tourney win in 15 years. The RedHawks now advance to face No. 5 seed Kent State Friday (7:30 p.m., CBSSN). The Flashes knocked off Western Michigan 73-66 in Thursday's late matchup.

Free throws help Toledo slip past Bobcats

CLEVELAND, OH -- Down by five with 3:12 remaining, the Toledo Rockets (18-14, 10-8 MAC) forced overtime and went on to edge Ohio (16-16, 10-8 MAC) 90-85 Thursday in Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament first round action at Rocket Arena.
The victory broke a four-game losing streak for UT and sent the fourth-seeded Rockets on to a Friday showdown against No. 1 seeded-Akron. UA cruised by Bowling Green (96-67) in the tourney opener.

Zips blast Bowling Green in tourney opener

CLEVELAND, OH -- Top-seeded Akron put six players in double figure and scored 32 points off Falcon turnovers as the Zips opened MAC Men's Basketball Tournament play with a 96-67 win over No. 8 seed Bowling Green Thursday at Rocket Arena.

The 29-point victory margin was a new program record for MAC Tournament play. Akron also improved on its tournament 3-point high mark with 16 made threes. The previous UA record was 14.

Nate Johnson named Player of the Year, Byers Freshman of the Year

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the All-MAC Teams and Specialty Award selections for the 2024-25 men’s basketball season today. All awards were voted on by the league's 12 head coaches, with coaches unable to vote for their own student-athletes.
