2023 RECORD: 7-6 (5-3 MAC) 2024 MAC Head Coaches Poll: 3rd - Tie with BGSU MRO STAFF You can't keep a good dog down long. At least that's how Northern Illinois fans feel about their football Huskies. After claiming a MAC title in 2021, the Huskies fell off to a 3-9 record the following season. However, they bounced back last year, winning five of their final seven regular season games to earn a bowl invite. NIU then edged Arkansas State 21-19 at the Camelllia Bowl to finish 7-6. As for MAC play, Northern Illinois finished 2023 with a 5-3 mark, falling to eventual MAC West champ Toledo 35-33 in late September and . . . 2023 RECORD: 6-7 (4-4 MAC) 2024 MAC Head Coaches Poll: 6th MRO STAFF A two-game winning streak to close the 2023 reguiar season enabled Eastern Michigan to reach a bowl game. However, a lopsided (59-10) loss to South Alabama in the 68 Ventures Bowl left EMU with a 6-7 record on the year. The Eagles were 4-4 in MAC action). Double digit wins and a bowl victory were two of the highlights from Ohio's 2023 campaign. The 'Cats have settled in under Head Coach Tim Albin, and there is an expectation of success. So much so, in fact, that the program enters each season with eyes on a title game appearance. That would give the 'Cats another shot at picking up their first MAC football title since 1968. They won five East titles since 2006, but with the end of divisions, they now need one of the top two MAC records among all 12 MAC programs to get another championship shot. Seven games into their 2023 season, the Central Michigan Chippewas were in decent shape. They were 2-1 in conference play and 4-3 overall. That left them with five games to pick up at least two wins to earn bowl eligibility. Unfortunately for CMU, the Chippewas managed just one more victory. In four of those final five outings, they surrendered at least 31 points. After finishing 10th among MAC teams in scoring defense (31.1 ppg) on the year, one of the key's for 2024 is to improve the CMU defense. On the other side of the ball, Central Michigan was . . . After recording just three wins in 2023, the Buffalo Bulls decided it was time for a change. Enter Pete Lembo! This is the veteran's second stint with a Mid-American Conference team, with the first act playing out in Muncie (Ball State Cardinals). As he had at other stops, he brought relative success to BSU rather quickly. The Cardinals went 6-6 in his first year at the helm and 19-7 (with two bowl appearances) over the the next two campaigns. The Broncos had trouble getting traction last year, stringing together multiple wins just once.
