To date, the Mid-American Conference has avoided some of the turmoil -- more specifically: conference membership realignment. Will that change? Even as programs like Southern Cal have jumped into conferences operating a half continent away, the MAC has recently kept its membership intact. Next year, UMass joins the fold in all sports, raising the league to 13 members. There's much to be said for the league, including a certain geographical balance in the big picture.
