The Bobcats trailed just 14-7 at intermission thanks, in part, to a defense that held Western Michigan to under 50 yards rushing. The Broncos, however, exploded for over 400 yards rushing in the second half to key a 49-14 victory. That kept WMU undefeated in conference play and handed Ohio (5-2, 2-1 MAC) its first MAC loss. Buffalo, meanwhile, will try to rebound on home turf after a decisive 51-14 loss at Central Michigan. UB scored an early touchdown to tie the game at 7-all. That turned out to be Buffalo’s only offensive score of the game. Andrews Dadeboe returned an interception 17 yards for a fourth quarter touchdown. ESPN3 By MIKE SMITH During his MAC coaches conference call this week, Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck remarked that the Miami RedHawks – who face WMU Saturday at Waldo Stadium– remind him of where the Broncos were a couple of years ago. The RedHawks are a team full of young players taking their knocks as they gain crucial game experience. Nowhere is that more true than at quarterback, where true freshman Billy Bahl is immersed in the school of hard knocks. That defensive performance keyed a 15-10 road win, improving Kent State record to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in Mid-American Conference play. The Flashes enter week eight tied with Ohio for second place in the East Division and have already surpassed their win total for all of 2014. The good news is Western Michigan’s super-frosh of 2014, Jarvion Franklin, isn’t carrying the ball 40 times a game anymore. The bad news is that WMU has three talented backs to handle the job. Last week’s devastating second half ground pounding of Ohio proved just how effective that trio can be. Combine that with a Zach Terrell at quarterback, and one of the nation’s top receiving combos; you get a team that should be ready for a serious stretch drive.
