DeKALB, IL -- Sophomore guard Daniel Freitag matched his season high with 33 points to lead the Bulls past Northern Illinois Wednesday at the NIU Convocation Center.. 
It was the third straight win for Buffalo (12-2, 2-0 MAC). NIU fell to 5-8, 1-1 MAC). 
Ezra McKenna's 3-point goal at 13:15 of the first period put UB in front and the Bulls led 43-29 at intermission. The Huskies pulled to within five (56-51) on a basket by Dylan Ducommun at 10:36 of the second half but UB pulled away for a 14-point win.
Ducommun led the Huskies with 19 points.

MU offense struggles in bowl loss to Fresno State

TUSCON, AZ --
If there has been an achilles heel for Miami football late this season, it has been offensive struggles against outstanding defensive teams (e.g. Toledo, Western Michigan).. 

Those troubles surfaced again Saturday as Miami fell to Fresno State 18-3 in Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl action at Arizona Stadium. With their loss, the RedHawks finish 2025 with a 7-7 record. Fresno State, meanwhile, moved to 9-4.

Forget interim tag; Ohio names Hauser as next head coach

ATHENS, Ohio – John Hauser has been promoted to head football coach, Ohio University Director of Athletics Slade Larscheid announced Friday (Dec. 26). Hauser is the 31st head coach in program history. 
 
"We are thrilled to announce John Hauser as our next head football coach. John is committed to developing our team while continuing to build on the strong foundation. The success is evident since he arrived on campus in 2022," Larscheid said. "Over the past four seasons, Ohio football has won 40 games, and John is a key piece in all that goes into our winning program. Additionally, he's a proven leader, and his focus will be on the student-athlete experience, both on and off the field. We look forward to John and his family making an immediate impact for Ohio University and Bobcat football."

Wildcats feast on flurry of Chippewa turnovers

DETROIT, MI -- Central Michigan set up 21 Wildcat points with three straight second quarter turnovers  and Northwestern went on to defeat the Chippewas 34-7 Friday in GameAbove Sports Bowl action at Ford Field. 

With the victory, Northwestern raised its season record to 7-6. CMU, which had won four of its previous six outings, fell to 7-6.

Bobcats reel in Rebels for Frisco bowl win
Ohio defense ends key Rebels streak

FRISCO, TX -- Sieh Bangura rushed for 149 yards with one TD and the Bobcats defense held UNLV to 10 points as Ohio defeated the Rebels 17-10 Tuesday in Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl action at Ford Center at The Star. 

It was the seventh straight bowl win for Ohio, who was playing under the direction of defensive coordinator and interim head coach John Hauser. The 'Cats completed 2025 with a 9-4 record.

Late Rocket rally not enough as Louisville prevails
Redshirt freshman QB leads Rocket rushing

BOCA RATON, FL -- Down 21-3 in the fourth quarter, Toledo (8-5) struck for 19 points before falling to Louisville (9-4) 27-22 Tuesday in Bush's Boca Roton Bowl action at Flagler Credit Union Stadium.

Defenses dominated uch of the game as the Cardinals led 7-2 at intermission and 14-3 after three periods. Another UL score to start the fourth quarter made it 21-3 before Toledo started its late rally. Redshirt freshman Kaleb Osborne found Jacob Peterson with a 26-yard TD pass at 10:42 and Robert Hammond hit a 50-yard field goal to finish the Rockets next posession.

MAC Announces Player of the Week

The Mid-American Conference has announced its Dec. 22 Men's Basketbal Player of the Week. 
This week's honoree is Brant Byers (Miami)

Chambersburg, Pa. (Perkiomen)

Brant Byers led the Red and White to a 2-0 week in a pair of away contests, as the RedHawks are still undefeated at 12-0. Miami defeated Wright State 83-76 Tuesday night and Ball State 86-77 Saturday afternoon. Byers totaled 43 points (21.5/game), shot 12-of-18 from the field (66.7%) and knocked down 7-of-9 shots (77.8%) from the three-point line over the two games. He also totaled nine rebounds (4.5/game), three steals (1.5/game) and one assist (0.5/game) on the week. Byers started the week strong against the Raiders, setting a career-high 27 points after shooting 5-of-6 from the three-point line. He also added five rebounds and three steals on the night. Byers went on to record 16 points, four rebounds and one assist against the Cardinals.

Broncos score early and often to defeat Owls
Familiar formula leads to program's fourth bowl win

CONROY, SC -- Jalen Buckley averaged 21.8 yards per carry and the Broncos defense forced four turnovers as Western Michigan (10-4) battered Kennesaw State (10-4) 41-6 Friday in Myrtle Beach Bowl action at Brooks Stadium. 

It was WMU's 10th win of 2025, marking the second time in a Bronco team had reached 10 wins in a season. The Owls, who had won nine of thier last 10 outings, finished at 10-4.
