OXFORD, OH -- The Miami RedHawks flexed their inside game Saturday with an 85-55 win over Army West Point at Millett Hall.
Junior forward Bam Bowman and sophomore forward Dalonte Brown provided much of the offense and flirted with double-doubles.
Bowman made 9-of-11 shots -- most at close range -- and provided 18 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Brown matched the 18 points and registered nine rebounds.
Nike Sibande was just a point back, hitting 4-of-10 treys (5-of-15 from the floor) and 3-of-4 free throws on the way to 17 points.
The Black Knights had an early 5-3 lead and were tied with the hosts at seven-all with 16:23 left. Miami then ran off nine straight points before Tucker Blackwell hit a three Army at 12:39.
The two teams battled evenly over the rest of the period. When Army’s Tommy Funk scored on a layup with five seconds remaining, it left the RedHawks in front 40-26.
After trading 3-pointers to open the second half, Miami scored 11 straight points. Bowman opened the run with a basket inside and Brown closed the stretch with a triple at 14:55 to leave MU in front 54-29.
The RedHawks gradually expanded their lead to 32 points following a Michael Ritchie layup at 1:56 and finished with the 30-point bulge.
Army connected on 22-of-64 (34.4%) overall and was 8-of-30 (26.7%) from beyond the arc. The Black Knights shot just seven free throws, making three -- none in the second half.
Miami got to the free throw line for 16 shots and made 11. (68.8%). The RedHawks were 32-of-66 (48.5%) from the floor and 10-of-31 (32.3%) on triples.
Miami returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Xavier. The game will tip at 6:30 p.m. ET and will be nationally televised on Fox Sports 1.
