The Bulls went back ahead by six in the opening seconds of the second half on another three-pointer from Massinburg, but St. Bonaventure answered with a 6-0 run to tie the game up.
The contest was tied at 51-51 with 10:35 left when the Bonnies scored four straight points. Buffalo cut it back to one on a fast-break layup from Massinburg with 8:39 left, but that would be only field goal over the next eight minutes.
It remained just a three-point game with 4:35 left when St. Bonaventure went on a 6-0 run to take a 66-57 lead with 50 seconds left.
A three-pointer by Nick Perkins ended the field goal drought with 39 seconds left, but the Bonnies hit their free throws late, taking a 73-62 lead with nine seconds left. That was their largest lead of the night.
Perkins and Massinburg each scored 21 points in the loss, while both players finished with eight rebounds, as well. Perkins went 9-of-12 from the free throw line.
Freshman James Reese had seven points and two rebounds, while Jeremy Harris added six points, seven rebounds, two assists, a block, and two steals.
Sophomore Davonta Jordan and junior Dontay Caruthers were hampered by foul trouble all night as Jordan had three points and four assists, while Caruthers had just two points and three assists in 13 minutes.
Freshman Jayvon Graves had two points, and assists, a steal, and a career-best three blocked shots.
The Bulls were outrebounded 50-38 in the contest. Matt Mobley led St. Bonaventure with 25 points, while Courtney Stockard added 13 points and nine rebounds.
St. Bonaventure's preseason All-American Jaylen Adams played in his first game of the season and finished with nine points and four boards.
UB goes back on the road this week as the Bulls will play at Delaware on Wednesday evening at 7pm. ET.
