Bowling Green has won 13 of its first 18 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1948.
With the score tied at 60-60 and 49 seconds to play, senior guard Dylan Frye nailed a deep three-pointer in the far corner. After a BGSU stop on the other end, redshirt-junior guard Justin Turner was fouled. Turner hit both with 29 seconds remaining to inch the lead up to five points at 65-60.
NIU’s Noah McCarty answered with a layup inside with 16 seconds to go. Frye then split at the line with eight seconds to play, giving the Falcons a two-possession lead at 66-62. Northern Illinois made a jump shot as time expired to conclude the game’s scoring.
Junior forward Daeqwon Plowden led the Falcons in scoring and rebounding, as he finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Frye (14 points) and Tayler Mattos (11 points) also scored in double figures for Bowling Green.
Eugene German topped NIU scoring with 19 points. He was joined in double figures by Trendon Hankerson (13) and Noah McCarty (10).
