Bowling Green, still undefeated in MAC play with a 6-0 mark, improved to 14-5 on the season with the win, while Eastern Michigan dropped to 8-11 (2-4 MAC) in 2018-19 with the loss.
With No. 14 Buffalo's loss at Northern Illinois later in the night, Bowling Green is now the league's lone unbeaten and maintains sole possession of first place one third of the way through the league schedule.
"Our zone offense was really good. We were able to move the ball, move the body, and we were able to get it inside and outside," Bowling Green head coach Michael Huger said "The most important thing – we were able to make the shots. We were open – had a lot of open looks – and we were able to knock them down. That's what it's about going against their zone. We did a great job of sharing the ball. We had 20 assists, so that was huge on our 29 buckets."
Justin Turner led the Falcons with 19 points, followed by Demajeo Wiggins' 13, with 11 apiece from Dylan Frye and Jeffrey Uju.
Eijah Minnie's corner three put the Eagles on the board, before Jackson connected on a fade-away jumper to give EMU a 5-3 edge with 17:30 to go in the opening frame.
After BGSU senior Demajeo Wiggins split a pair of free throws, Thompson completed an old-fashioned three-point play to stake the Eagles' largest lead of the night, 8-4, with 16:54 left in the first.
In a first half that featured six ties and two lead changes, junior Damari Parris nailed a mid-range jump shot to even the score at 16 with 8:52 left in the first. However, the Falcons eventually seized the momentum and held a 36-27 advantage at the break.
The Eagles started the second stanza on a high note, as Jackson set up Thompson for an alley-oop 34 seconds into the period. Trailing by as many as 18, EMU used a 9-3 run to trim the deficit to 59-47 with 9:13 left in regulation, but Bowling Green kept the Eagles at a distance to win by double digits.
