ST. LOUIS – Western Michigan led by as many as 18 in the second half as the Broncos picked up their first road win of the season with a 65-51 victory over Saint Louis on Tuesday night inside Chaifetz Arena.
The victory improves WMU’s overall . . .

. . . record to 4-3 and was the first “true” road non-conference victory for the Broncos since defeating Pacific back in 2014. WMU will return home for a key non-conference match-up against mid-major power Oakland on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2:00 p.m.

After scoring just six points in the first half, senior guard Thomas Wilder had a stellar second half to finish with a game-high 16 points along with three assists and two steals. Wilder scored at least 10 points for the 26th consecutive game, the sixth longest streak in the NCAA.

Junior Bryce Moore had his best scoring output of the season with 14 points while registering a career-high four three-pointers. Moore also hauled in four rebounds and had four assists. From the field the Indianapolis, Ind., native went 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the three-point line.

The Broncos outrebounded the Billikens, 40-28, with a career-high 13 rebounds coming from junior Josh Davis. Davis also poured in nine points in 36 minutes played. Sophomore Brandon Johnson dominated the glass for WMU as well, scoring 10 points and collecting eight rebounds. Johnson had a stellar shooting night from the field going 5-of-8.

It was a total team effort in the fourth victory of the season for the brown and gold as the Broncos had a total of 16 assists on 23 made shots. Senior center Drake LaMont led the team with a game-high five assists. From the free-throw line the Broncos shot 91.7 percent (11-of-12) compared to Saint Louis’ 60 percent (12-of-20).

With WMU leading by one at halftime, Saint Louis raced out of the gate to begin the second half with a 7-0 run to give the Billikens their largest lead of the game at 27-23. The Broncos responded with a 10-0 run of their own to regain the lead and never looked back. Overall, WMU went on a 19-4 run that lasted nearly eight minutes to take a double digit lead.

Despite leading by 18 with four minutes to go, Saint Louis clawed their way back to cut the Bronco lead to single digits with 1:39 remaining. However, with the clock winding down Bryce Moore made his fourth three-pointer of the night from the right wing to give WMU an 11-point lead with 30 seconds remaining and end the Billikens chances of a comeback.

It was a low scoring affair in the first half as both teams combined to shoot just 34 percent (16-of-47). The Broncos missed their first five shots of the game but kept the game tied at the 14-minute mark thanks to sophomore Reggie Jones scoring five straight points. Jones led all scorers in the first half with seven points.
