Caldwell scores 20 in Falcons win

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Bowling Green won its fourth-straight game on Saturday afternoon, as the Falcons picked up a 78-72 victory over host Campbell University in the Creek Classic. at CU's Gore Arena.
 
Bowling Green improves to 5-1 on the season with the victory, while Campbell drops to 2-4 with the loss. Bowling Green, having beat USC Upstate yesterday, is 2-0 on the weekend. Campbell lost to Abilene Christian yesterday, and is now 0-2.

KEY PLAYS
• Rodrick Caldwell nailed a three-pointer with 4:21 left in regulation to give Bowling Green a 62-60 lead.
• On Bowling Green's next possession, Dylan Frye hit a triple, giving the Falcons a 65-60 lead with 3:55 to play.
• Campbell then hit a three-pointer to pull within two points, but Justin Turner answered with a trey of his own with 3:14 to go, pushing BGSU's advantage to 68-63.
• A Demajeo Wiggins layup made the score 70-63 in BG's favor with 2:35 remaining. BGSU maintained at least a five-point lead for the rest of the game.

PLAYER NOTES
• Rodrick Caldwell posted a career-high 20 points, and also dished out five assists. Caldwell went 9-for-10 from the line, 5-for-9 from the floor, and 1-for-2 from three-point territory.
• Caldwell now has 20 combined assists over the last three games.
• Demajeo Wiggins added 14 points and seven rebounds in 33 minutes.
• Dylan Frye scored 14 points, while chipping in with five rebounds and two assists. Frye went 2-for-4 from deep, marking his sixth-straight game with at least two three-pointers to open the season.
• Nelly Cummings scored 10 points, posting the second double-digit game of his career. Cummings also had two rebounds, two assists and two steals. He made the first two three-pointers of his career, as he went 2-for-3.
• Derek Koch registered eight points and six rebounds, and hit the second three-pointer of his young career.
• Justin Turner went 2-for-4 from three-point territory, and finished with eight points, six rebounds, one steal and one block.
• Daeqwon Plowden had two points and four rebounds.
• Matt Fox added two points, two rebounds and two assists.
• Jeffrey Uju had four rebounds in five minutes.
 
FALCON FACTS
• Bowling Green is 5-1 for the first time since 2014-15.
• The Falcons are on a four-game winning streak for the first time since Bowling Green went on a six-game winning streak during the 2015-16 non-conference schedule.
• Bowling Green's 5-1 start is the best start through six games in the Michael Huger Era.
• Bowling Green is now 2-0 in true road games, and 3-0 in games away from the Stroh Center in 2017-18.
• The Falcons went 18-for-20 (90 percent) at the free throw line. The last time BGSU shot at least 90 percent at the line took place on March 17, 2015. The Falcons went 9-for-10 that day versus Saint Francis.
• Bowling Green dished out 13 assists, and only committed 11 turnovers.
• The Falcons held the Camels to 38.5 percent (25-for-55) shooting in the first half.
• Bowling Green out-rebounded Campbell, 41-26. Bowling Green crushed the Camels on the offensive glass by a 13-4 margin.
• BGSU shot 43.3 percent (26-for-60) from the floor, and 42.1 percent (8-for-19) from three-point territory.
• BGSU scored 20 points off turnovers, while Campbell only scored 11 points off turnovers.
• Bowling Green's bench outscored Campbell's, 14-9.
• The Falcons had 16 second-chance points. Campbell only had four.
