could the mac be back???!!!
Suffice it to say 2020 has been the strangest year in... well ...a long, long, loooooong time. The stars, planets and a multitude of other things have aligned to push our national misery index to a feverish level. Losing much of college football -- including Mid-American Conference football -- didn't help.
Even when . . .
“Currently there are no plans to play a fall season in any sport. We are focused on providing our fall student-athletes meaningful competitive experiences in the spring.”
According to the Detroit News, however, there has been a late push to get MAC teams back in action -- possibly this fall -- with some kind of conference schedule. (SEE ARTICLE).
The big money-making non-conference games typically populating early MAC schedules are permanently gone. Even any conference games would likely have little or no fans due to Covid 19 restrictions. Indeed, campuses have been the site for a number of spikes in positive tests.
It's a tall, tall order to "restart" a season. What's really to be gained?
No doubt many players and coaches would jump at the chance. One mightalso suspect that if the MAC ends up being the only (or one of few) FBS conferences to play something, it could affect recruiting. Certainly, a carry-over of scholarships could complicate matters.
For those of us who have been plowing toward December 31 and an end to this miserable year, the prospect of MAC football is a pleasant picture. We should find out very soon if such a vision is but a mirage.
