BOSTON – An inability to move the ball with consistency, untimely penalties and failure to neutralize a dangerous Boston College punt return man spelled doom for the Central Michigan football team on Saturday.

Michael Walker set up three Boston College touchdowns with long punt returns as the Eagles handed the Chippewas a 28-8 nonconference loss before 27.030 at the Eagles’ Alumni Stadium.

The loss, CMU’s .  .  .

. . . third straight, left the Chippewas at 2-3. They return to Mid-American Conference play next Saturday at Ohio, which took a 3-1 record into its nonconference game on Saturday at UMass.

Boston College intercepted CMU quarterback Shane Morris three times as the Chippewas offense struggled for the third consecutive week. Morris threw for 171 yards on 21-of-42 passing.

Running back Jonathan Ward caught a career-high 10 passes for 49 yards, while freshman Tony Poljan, the Chippewas’ second-string quarterback, finished with three catches for a team-high 61 yards.

CMU seized a 2-0 lead when defensive lineman Nate Brisson-Fast tackled a Boston College ball carrier in the end zone less than four minutes into the game.

Walker returned four punts for an average of 32 yards and a long of 61. His first-half returns of 61, 34 and 29 yards gave the BC offense a short field to work with, and the Eagles cashed in each time.

Jon Hilliman scored three touchdowns as the Eagles built their three-touchdown lead midway through the third quarter.
