BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Jake Suder tied a Perry Stadium record with four field goals as the Bowling Green Falcons dropped its 2017 home opener to the University of South Dakota on Saturday evening.

The Coyotes scored 21 first-quarter points, and BGSU could get no closer than eight points before dropping a 35-27 decision. The loss drops BGSU to 0-2 on the season.

Redshirt sophomore . . .

. . . quarterback James Morgan threw for 315 yards and his first two touchdown passes of the season. Scott Miller and Teo Redding caught those, as the Falcons were 5-for-5 in red zone opportunities. Datrin Guyton caught 158 yards worth of passes for a 31.6 average, while the Falcons rushed a total of 161 yards and a 4.6 per carry average.

Bowling Green returns to the field next Saturday night (Sept. 16) at Northwestern. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

NOTES
● Redshirt junior Jake Suder tied the Doyt Perry Stadium record for most field goals in a single game with four against South Dakota. He tied the mark originally set by Tyler Tate in BGSU's 45-42 win over Indiana on Sept. 13, 2014. His is the fourth game of four or more field goals in Falcon history, joining Tate, Don Taylor (4 at Toledo, 1974), and Brian Leaver (5, at Kent State, 1994).

● James Morgan earned his third career 300-yard passing game against South Dakota. Morgan finished with 315 yards and 21 completions, including eight completions for 123 yards in the fourth quarter. In 2016, Morgan threw for 335 yards at Toledo, then followed that with a 389-yard performance at home against Miami.

● Datrin Guyton caught a personal record five passes for 158 yards for an average of 31.6 per reception. In his young two-game career with the Falcons, he has seven catches for 198 yards (28.3 per catch). This includes receptions of 49, 45, 40 and 35 yards.

● Redshirt senior Joseph Davidson continues his march up the all-time BGSU punting leaderboards. Last week, he became the Falcons' career record holder for punting yards with 9,180 and increased that total to 9,419 tonight. His six punts against South Dakota give him 211 for his career. Davidson's next punt will move him into a tie for second-place in BGSU history. He is eight behind record-holder Jim Phelps.
