EMU (8-8, 2-1 MAC) reached rarified air on the offensive end, posting its fourth-best field goal percentage at 65.4 percent (34-of-52) and its third-highest three-point rating at 63.2 percent (12-of-19) en route to a 34-point win over KSU (12-4, 1-2 MAC).
The result marks the most points the Eagles have ever scored against Kent State, the first time the Green and White have tallied 90 or more points against the Golden Flashes since Jan. 4, 1997, and the program's largest head-to-head margin of victory since an 85-50 triumph, Feb. 25, 1995.
Senior James Thompson IV added 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go with six boards and a team-high four blocks, while redshirt junior Boubacar Toure totaled 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting in addition to eight boards.
Redshirt senior Paul Jackson finished 6-of-8 from the floor for 17 points and a team-best seven assists, and sophomore Kevin McAdoo notched 14 points, including a season-high four triples.
Jaylin Walker (14) and Philip Wittington (13) combined for 27 points to lead Kent State.
The Eagles made the most of their significant height advantage, out-rebounding the Golden Flashes by a 39-27 margin and holding the visitors to 35.5 percent (22-of-62) from the field. For good measure, EMU posted eight blocks and 34 points in the paint.
Thompson started the scoring in the opening minute with his third collegiate triple and first since the season opener against Rochester, Nov. 5. The Golden Flashes bounced back to grab a 10-7 edge, but Thompson added another three-pointer to knot the score at 10 with 15:02 to go in the first half.
The Eagles continued to shine from beyond the arc, as Minnie buried threes on back-to-back possessions to put the Green and White back in front, 20-17, with 10:46 left in the first. After Kent State tied the game at 20 apiece, EMU tallied nine unanswered points to build a 29-20 lead, prompting the Golden Flashes to burn their second timeout of the half with 7:18 on the clock.
Ahead 39-32 coming out of the break, the Eagles began the final frame on a 14-1 run to open up a 53-33 cushion with 16:52 left in regulation. EMU showed no mercy throughout the second half, as Jackson sank a corner three to bump the lead to 74-41 with 8:24 left in the contest.
EMU's advantage swelled to 91-54 in the closing stages, allowing the hosts to make wholesale changes with 2:13 remaining.
