KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Sophomore Reggie Jones registered a career-high 27 points as Western Michigan led wire-to-wire in 78-67 victory over Cleveland State on Wednesday night inside University Arena.

. . . 50 percent (7-of-14) from the field and connected on four three-pointers while also going 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. The Marion, Ind., native impacted the game in many ways, collecting five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 27 minutes.
In the past four games, Jones has been a dominant force on the offensive side of the ball, averaging 15.0 points while shooting 48 percent from the floor.
Fellow sophomore Brandon Johnson had his best scoring performance of the season against Cleveland State with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting in a career-high 35 minutes played. Senior Thomas Wilder fouled out late in the second half but not before collecting 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Wilder has now scored in double figures in 28 straight games, the 12th longest streak in the NCAA.
Western Michigan outrebounded Cleveland State, 40-30 with junior Josh Davis leading the Broncos with 13 rebounds, tying his career-high. It’s the seventh game in which Davis has led WMU in rebounding this season and second time he has had double digit rebounds.
The Broncos made the most of their many opportunities at the free-throw line as WMU went 27-of-37 from the charity stripe. As a team, WMU shot 43.5 percent from the field compared to CSU’s, 41.0 percent. The Brown and Gold had a solid night from beyond the three-point line connecting on 11 threes.
WMU will now hit the road to take on its third straight Horizon League opponent when the Broncos take on Detroit Mercy on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2:00 p.m.
The Broncos never trailed against Cleveland State, scoring the first six points of the game and led by as many as 16. Midway through the first half, WMU embarked on a 16-4 run to extend its lead to double digits, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from Jones and sophomore Jared Printy.
As time dwindled down in the first half, the Vikings cut the lead to single digits, forcing the Broncos to commit five turnovers in a span of three minutes. Down the stretch, CSU made four straight field goals as WMU held a slim 38-30 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Cleveland State got to within seven before WMU went on a 10-0 run to open its lead back up to double digits. The 10-0 run was capped off by Davis knocking down a three-pointer from the top of the key to give WMU a 60-46 advantage.
During a nine-minute stretch of the second half, the Broncos were held scoreless from the field but capitalized from the free-throw line as a total of 21 fouls were called on the Vikings. In the second half alone, WMU went 24-of-33 from the free-throw line as a total of 31 fouls were called.
Cleveland State once again cut the lead to single digits with two minutes remaining, applying the full court press and forcing WMU to commit three straight turnovers. However, WMU pulled away late scoring seven of the final 10 points to earn the 78-67 home victory.
