Given its struggles in stopping the run, Bowling Green’s challenge against option-attack Georgia Tech figured to be a monumental task.
Monumental, indeed, as the Yellow Jackets scored on their first seven possession and totaled 532 yards in a 63-17 victory over BG.
That total included 372 rushing yards, but Georgia was also productive the few passes it employed.
TaQuon Marshall completed 5 of 6 passes for 160 yards. He also ran 13 times for 42 yards, with two rushing scores.
Jalen Camp caught two passes for 70 yards, while three other players had one catch apiece.
Bowling Green quarterback Jarret Doege provided most of the Falcons offense, completing 27 of 44 passes for 205 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He also lost one fumble.
Scott Miller was the top target, grabbing 10 catches for 117 yards. Jordan Wayne-Prather had seven receptions for 70 yards, while Deric Phouthavong’s had a 30-yard touchdown catch among his two receptions.
Ra’veion Hargrove and Bryson Denley combined for 17 carries and 46 of BG’s 63 rushing yards. Doege notched the only rushing TD with a 1-yard run.
The Falcons took their one and only lead early when Nate Needham hit a 29-yard field goal at 9:09 of the first quarter.
After two Georgia Tech TDs, BG closed the deficit to 14-10 after Doege hit Phouthavong from 30 yards out. Tech pulled away after that.
