AKRON, OHIO- Just a little over 20 days after being named head men’s basketball coach at the University of Akron, John Groce has put his stamp on the program, announcing the signing of two players who will be eligible for the 2017-18 season.

Patton was the Ohio Division II co-player of the year in 2015-16, leading the Rams to a 26-3 record. They fell in the state semi-finals to eventual State Champion Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, 62-60.
The Zips second addition is Mark Kostelnac a 6-11 center from Cleveland. He played four years at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School, leading the Vikings in points, rebounds, and blocked shots his senior season.
On the inking of Kostelnac, Groce said “We knew he would be a great fit for our program.”
Last season, Kostelnac went to the IMG Academy in Florida and led the IMG National Post-grad team, averaging 18 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocked shots per contest.
UA opens play in November at home against Cleveland State in the Northeast Ohio Coaches vs. Cancer tournament.
