It was his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season and put Johnson over 1,000 yards on the year. He became just the fourth UB receiver in school history with 1,000 receiving yards in a single season, joining Drew Haddad, Naaman Roosevelt and Alex Neutz, who all did it twice.
Bowling Green was led by freshman quarterback Jarret Doege. He completed 28 of 43 passes for 294 yards and three TDs. His top target was Scott Miller, who caught 10 balls for 108 yards and a score.
Freshman Andrew Clair had his string of four straight 100-yard+ games snapped, but contributed 85 yards on 10 carries. Fred Garth topped Falcon defenders with eight tackles.
The Bulls scored 21 first-quarter points, starting with a 5-yard touchdown run by Emmanuel Reed. After Bowling Green tied the game at 7-7, Johnson scored touchdowns on back-to-back drives. His first was a 21-yard TD reception to give the Bulls a 14-7 lead with 3:20 left in the first quarter. Jackson then hit Johnson in stride for a 69-yard touchdown less than two minutes later to extend the UB lead to 21-7.
After Bowling Green cut the Bulls' advantage to 21-14 at the half, Buffalo marched down the field on its opening possession of the second half and took a 28-14 lead on a Jackson 37-yard touchdown strike to K.J. Osborn.
Bowling Green cut the lead to 31-28 early in the fourth quarter. However, Theo Anderson put the game on ice with an eight-yard touchdown run to move the Bulls ahead, 38-28, with 8:53 left. Anderson had the best game of his young career. The redshirt-freshman running back rushed for a career-best 133 yards in the game.
Buffalo’s defense forced and recovered a season-high three fumbles in the game. Justin Brandon forced and recovered a fumble at the Bowling Green 6-yard line that led to the Bulls' first scored of the game. Chuck Harris grabbed two of the fumbles.
Khalil Hodge had a game-high 10 tackles in the game to bring his season total to 129. He now holds the Buffalo FBS-era record for single-season tackles, breaking the previous record of 125 set by Justin Winters in 2008.
Buffalo (4-6, 2-4 MAC) will next play at Ball State on November 16. Bowling Green (2-8, 3-4 MAC) will host arch-rival Toledo Wednesday, Nov. 15.
