Flashes fight off massive Bulls rally
KENT, Ohio-
After seeing a 21-point lead dwindle in the second half, Kent State (7-3, 4-2 MAC) used some clutch free throw shooting and a key defensive stop to hold off Buffalo, 84-81, at the M.A.C. Center on Tuesday night.

Senior Michael Nuga led the charge with a game-high 23 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Senior Justyn Hamilton added 16 points, while senior Tervell Beck finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and an assist.

Buffalo's jost Mball paced the hosts with 22 points.  Joining him in double figures were Jeenathan Williams (20), Ronaldo Segu (19) and BrockBertram (10).

After leading 47-26 at halftime, the Flashes trailed 81-75 with just two minutes left to play in the game. Hamilton nailed a jumper to spark KSU's offense in the final minute and a half before junior Malique Jacobs came away with a defensive rebound and was fouled, sending him to the free throw line, where he made both tosses.

With the Flashes down by two with 1:16 left to play, Jacobs came up with a steal that led to a layup by Nuga. That tied the game 81-81. Buffalo's trey attempt to reclaim the lead  missed, and Nuga sank three-of-four free  tows  in the final seconds to secure  an 84-81 KSU victory.

For the game, Kent State shot 44.6 percent (29-65) from the floor and 36.4 percent (4-11) from long range. The Flashes forced 15 Buffalo turnovers and capitalized on 21 points off turnovers. Buffalo slightly edged KSU in the battle of the boards, 41-37, but the Flashes scored 18-second chance points off 13 offensive rebounds.

Buffalo connected on 29.7 percent from the fieldin the first half and made just one of 12 3-point tries in the stanza. It was a different story after intermission as  UB  hit  58.3 percent overall and 5-of-10 outside the arc.
Toledo 89, Central  Michigan 72
Rockets bounce back behind freshman
TOLEDO, Ohio –
Freshman Ryan Rollins tallied a season-high 25 points and team-best seven rebounds to lead five Rockets in double figures as Toledo notched a convincing 89-72 victory over Central Michigan Tuesday at Savage Arena. .Bouncing back from Saturday'sloss to Akron, Toledo raised its' record to 12-4 overall and 7-1 in Mid-American Conference play. Central Michigan fell to 2-5 MAC and 6-8 overall.

"Ryan was very efficient tonight by shooting 11-of-14 from the floor," UT Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "We didn't shoot well in the first half, but we turned it around when our shots started falling. When we move the ball and play as unselfish as we do, we are a talented offensive team. We're a team that continues to evolve and get better."

Joining Rollins in double digits were senior Marreon Jackson, who tallied 15 points, a game-high nine assists and six rebounds. Senior Spencer Littleson (14 pts.), junior JT Shumate (13 pts.) and junior Setric Millner Jr. (10 pts.) also posted double-figure scoring totals making it four straight games five or more Rockets have tallied 10 or more points.

Senior Travon Broadway Jr. paced the Chippewas (6-8, 2-5 MAC) with a game-high 27 points. Meikkel Murray (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Malik Muhammad (13 points, 11 rebounds) each registered a double-double.

Toledo led for nearly the entire contest and pulled away toward the end of the first half with a 9-0 spurt that resulted in a 42-33 halftime advantage. The Rockets then rebuffed each of CMU's rallies by shooting 55.2 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.

Toledo outshot CMU by a 48.5-38.7 margin and also held a significant edge in the three-point shooting department. The Rockets knocked down 9-of-29 three-point attempts (31.0 percent) compared to the Chippewas' 4-of-25 totals (16.0 percent).

BOWLING GREEN, OH --

Miami 81, Ball State 71
Turnovers, free throws pave way for MU win
By MIKE  SMITH
OXFORD, OH --
Coming off a stinging loss at Ohio, the Miami RedHawks halted Ball State's momentum Tuesday with an 81-71 victory at Millett Hall.

The Cardinals drilled East-leading Bowling Green, along with Northern Illinois last week, but they committed 18 turnovers against MU. That helped the RedHawks, who had just eight turnovers, enjoy a 25-6 advantage in points off turnovers.  Miami also shook off some early free throw misses to eventually hit 27-of-38 charity tosses. That more than offset Ball State's "perfect" 25-of-25 production at the line.

Miami's James Beck recorded a double double with 17 points  and 11 boards, while Dalonte Brown also tallied 17 points. Mekhi Lairy (12)  and Isaiah Coleman-Lands (10) also reached double figures.

K.J. Walton and Ishmael El-Amin shared  team-high honors for Ball State with 17 apiece.

Ball State grabbed an early lead and stayed in front throughout the first half. Despite leading by seven on several occasions, however, the Cardinals could not shake MU. It was a mere 36-35 BSU advantage at the break, and the lead wavered back and forth over the first seven minutes after play resumed.

Miami finally moved in front to stay after a pair of free throws by Coleman-Lands at 12:10. Like the Cardinals in the first half, MU could not pull away. However, it did fight off several Ball State challenges. BSU pulled within one point five more times, with the last (64-63) coming at 3:05.
Brown's basket inside at 2:15 started a 10-2 RedHawk run that sealed the verdict in Miami's favor.

NOTES:
>> Miami hit just one more field goal and both teams knocked down eight triples.
>> Ball State had one more rebound (34-33). However, MU held the edge on points-in-the-paint (24-22), second chance points (24-3), fast break points (12-0) and points off the bench (33-19)
