Santiago's 22 points came off of 6-of-11 shooting from the floor and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed four rebounds and had an assist.
Malique Jacobs added 17 points, seven rebounds, and had three steals, while Danny Pippen scored 15 points and grabbed six boards. Justyn Hamilton rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Flashes with 10 points.
B. Artis White paced the Broncos, hitting 5-of-9 treys and 6-of-12 shots from the field overall while scoring 20 points. Greg Lee (19) was the only other Bronco in double figures.
Kent State led 2-0 but trailed for most of the game A Flashes 11-0 run in the second half moved them ahead, 52-51 with 10:04 left to go.
A dunk by Hamilton extended the KSU's lead to 60-55, but the Broncos kept attacking as they would tie the score two separate times, threatening to re-gain the lead. With KSU up by one, 70-69, a layup from Santiago sparked a 6-0 by the Flashes to secure the 76-69 victory over Western Michigan.
The Flashes forced 11 turnovers in the second half and were able to score 18 points off the Bronco's miscues. Kent State was solid from the charity stripe, making 27-of-29 free throws. For the game. The Flashes shot 40 percent from the floor and 27.8 percent from long range.
Western Michigan connected on 44.8 percent from the field overall and 45 percent outside the arc. The Broncos hit 8-of-13 free throws.
