OVERVIEW:
>> Central Michigan finished non-conference play this year with a 6-6 mark. Among the losses was a 70-62 setback at No. 15 Marquette. Another close loss came at Minnessota (68-65). However, CMU absorbed harsher setbacks against Valparaiso (93-77), Mississippi State (83-59) and Arizona (94-41) during a three game losing streak in mid-December.
Among the wins . . .
>> CMU ranks seventh among MAC teams in scoring (74.9 ppg) and is third in scoring defense (70.8 ppg). The 4.2 margin is sixth best (MAC).
>> Central Michigan ranks fourth in field goal percentage (46.2%) and is eighth (31/9%) in 3-point sucess.
>> Rebounding has been a plus this year. The Chips rank third among MAC teams in rebounds (37.5 rpg). However, CMU is 11th in turnovers (-1.08 per game).
>> Former Bethune-Cookman forward Jakobi Heady (6-6, 200, Sr) leads CMU scorers this year. He is averaging 13.2 ppg, while connecting on 42.2 percent from the field. He also has grabbed 6.7 rebounds per contest.
>> Ugnius Jaruseevicius (6-10, Jr.,forward) is connecting on 56.4 percent from the field while averaging 12.7 ppg and 6-1 rebounds as a Chippewa. He was previously with Cal-State Bakersfield.
>> Prichard is close to last year's production, averaging 12.3 ppg so far.
>> Junior guard Kyler Vanderjagt, who averaged just 10.8 minutes last year at Belmont, is averaging 26.9 minutes and 10.9 ppg as a Chippewas this season.
>> Central Michigan opens conference play Saturday when it hosts Ohio. The Bobcats were picked first in a MAC Coaches Preseason Poll.
