ATHENS, OH -- In a matchup between Mid-American Conference division leaders, Ryan Rollins scored 26 points to lead Toledo past Ohio 87-69 Friday at the Convocation Center.
Toledo, which was one point shy of putting all five starters in double figures, hit 59 percent from the field overall and 41.2 percent on treys. It was also a perfect 8 of 8 at the line.
Ohio, meanwhile, connected on 45 percent from the field. The Bobcats had one more 3-point goal, but were 8 0f 29 on treys overall and just 7 of 14 at the line. Jason Carter led the way for OU with 19 points and seven caroms.
The visiting Rockets pulled out to a 10-point lead with 12:49 left in the first half and were up 16 at intermission. Carter's 3-point goal at 6:51 closed the gap to six points, but UT finished with a 16-4 run.
Both teams now have one conference loss, with Toledo standing at 7-1 MAC and 15-4 overall. Ohio is 5-1 in MAC play and 14-3 on the season.
BUFFALO, NY -- Buffalo recorded 11 steals and 17 assists on the way to a 64-51 win over Kent State Friday night at Alumni Arena in Buffalo.
The Bulls held KSU to 33.3 percent from the field and 19 percent on 4 of 21 3-point attempts. Tervell Beck led the Flashes with 11 points, while Jalen Sullenger was the only other Kent State player in double figures. He chipped in 10 points.
Buffalo also had just two players in double figures, but Jeenathan Williams tallied a game-high 25 points, while Ronaldo Segu added 15. Williams hit 9 of 14 from the field overall, including all four trey attempts.
The hosting Bulls built up a 27-13 lead following Segu's basket at 8:32 and led by 14 before taking a 34-24 lead to halftime. Kent State eventually battled to within five at 55-50 following Justyn Hamilton's jumper at 3:59, but UB closed out its victory with a 9-1 run.
Buffalo connected on 44.1 percent from the field but -- like Kent State struggled from long distance. The Bulls made just 7 of 30 trey attempts. UB also went 5 of 12 at the charity stripe.
Buffalo moves to 4-2 in MAC play and 10-6 overall. The Flashes are now even at 4-4 MAC, 9-9 for the season.
