AKRON, OH -- Down by three at intermission, Akron (21-5, 13-0 MAC) surged ahead in the second period to defeat Northern Illinois (5-21, 1-12 MAC) Tuesday at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Seth Wilson's triple at 18:44 moved UA in front for good and the Zips led by 11 with 3:42 to go.
Tavari Johnson and Shammah Scott topped Akron with 15 apiece. Nate Johnson tallied 14 points and grabed a game-high eight rebounds.
Quentin Jones topped all scorers with 28 points, while Kailon Nicholls chipped in 11 more for the Huskies.
It was the seventh straight loss for NIU and 14th consecutive victory for Akron, which now owns a three-game lead in the conference.
BUFFALO, NY -- All five Bronco starters reached double figures while Western Michigan (9-17, 6-7 MAC) defeated Buffalo (8-18, 3-10 MAC) 97-64 Tuesday at Alumni Arena.
The visitors jumped out to a 9-0 lead and were up 52-23 by halftime. WMU led by 39 points with 12:49 remaining.
Broncos junior guard Markhi Strickland topped all scorers with 20 points. He was followed by JaVaughn Hannah (18 points), Chansey Willis Jr. (16 points), Donovan Williams (16 points) and Max Burton 10 points.
Western Michigan connected on 57.7 percent from the field overall and 50 percent from beyond the arc.
Buffalo was led by Brayden Jackson with 14 points. The Bulls sank 44.2 percent from the floor overall but just 15.4 percent (2 of 13) on treys.
Western Michigan shot five free throws, sinking two. UB hit 24 of 37 charity tosses.
BOWLING GREEN, OH -- Jalen Sullinger knocked down all 15 free throw opportunities while scoring 32 points to lead Kent State (18-8, 8-5 MAC) over Bowling Green (10-16, 4-9 MAC) 91-84 Tuesday at the Stroh Center. It was the fifth straight win for KSU, which visits Miami Friday.
VonCameron Davis backed up Sullinger with 22 points of his own, while Marquis Barnett added 12 points.
Bowling Green was led by Javontae Campbell, who tallied 26 points. Marquis Johnson contributed 21 points and Exacta Wilguens Jr. chipped in 11 points. \
The Flashes led by 13 at intermission but had to hold off a late challenge by BGSU, which pulled within four (82-78) with 2:48 remaining.
TOLEDO, OH -- Isaiah Adams' two free throws with 12 seconds left put Toledo (16-10, 9-4 MAC) in front a final time, and the Rockets held on for a 67-66 win over Ball State (13-13, 6-7 MAC) Tuesday at Savage Arena.
The Cardinals, who won their last two outings in overtime. were unable to pull out another victory.
Adams led Toledo with 18 points. Sonny Wilson and Sam Lewis followed with a dozen each. Javan Simmons came up short of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
Payton Sparks and Jermahri Hill topped the Cardinals with 16 points apiece. Sparks also recorded a team-high nine rebounds. Juanse Gorosito added 13 points.
Toledo made just 3 of 14 3-point attempts (21.4%) and went 8 of 12 at the line. BSU hit 15 of 17 opportunties from the stripe and made two more treys. However, the Rockets recorded five more field goals on the night.
ATHENS, OH -- Shereef Mitchell's two free throws with 16 seconds left proved to be the difference as Ohio (14-12, 8-5 MAC) nipped Central Michigan (11-15, 4-5 MAC) Tuesday at the Convocation center.
The Bobcats scored five more field goals and five more treys overall, but CMU hit 27 of 35 free throws. Although Ohio made just 14 of 20, its final two were game winners.
Jackson Paveletzke led Ohio with 22 points -- all but two in the second stanza. AJ Brown (20) and AJ Clayton 11 also reached double figures.
CMU's Jakobi Heady led all scorers with 35 points. He hit 9 of 18 from the field, 4 of 6 3-point attempts and 13 of 15 free throws. Ugnius Jarusevicius also reached double figures with 25 points.

YPSILANTI, MI -- It's been a good week for Eastern Michigan.
Not so much for the Miami RedHawks.
Senior forward Da'Sean Nelson scored 25 points and classmate Jalen Terry tallied 24 to lead Eastern Michigan (13-13, 6-7 MAC) to a 76-66 win over Miami Tuesday at the Gervin Game/Above Center.
It was the second win of the week for EMU, which knocked off neighboring Toledo last Saturday. Terry exploded for 38 points in that victory.
