Zips headed to third straight MAC title game
CLEVELAND, OH -- Tavari Johnson and Shammah Scott scored 18 points apiece and the Zips held Kent state to 29.4 percent shooting from the field as Akron downed Kent State 75-68 Friday in Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament action at Rocket Arena.
It was UA's eighth straight win over its rival and sets up a chance for Akron to win a MAC record third straight tourney title when it faces Toledo Saturday.

. . . KSU 11-8 before battling their way into a lead that reached 14 points (42-28) by intermission. Kent State was within four late in the contest when Scott nailed a 3-pointer to give UA a 68-61 edge with 1:50 to go.
Joining Johnson and Scott in double figures for Akron was Evan Mahaffey (16).
Rob Whaley Jr. topped Kent State with 15 points. H was followed by Quinn Woidke (12 points), Delrecco Gillespie (10 points, 15 rebounds) and Jahari Williamson (10 points).
