DeKALB, IL -- Tavari Johnson scored 21 points to lead Akron past Northern Illinois (5-15, 1-7 MAC) 80-70 Tuesday at the NIU Convocation Center.
It was the eight straight victory for UA (15-5, 8-0 MAC) which remains the only conference team with no MAC losses. The Huskies, meanwhile fell back in the loss column after posting their only MAC win against Ball State last Saturday.
The Zips led 37-33 at halftime and the game was tied at 40-all with 18:10 remaining. However, Akron ran off seven straight points and went on to win by 10.
Joining Tavari Johnson in double figures for UA were Nate Johnson (19), Isaiah Gray (12) and Shammah Scott (11).
Huskies sophomore guard Quentin Jones led all scorers with 25 points. James Dent Jr. tallied 22, while Kailon Nichols added 12.
KENT, OH -- VonCameron Davis scored 24 points to lead Kent State (13-7, 4-4 MAC) as the Flashes cruised by Bowling Green (7-13, 2-6 MAC) 75-57 Tuesday at the M.A.C. Center.
With the victory, KSU evened its MAC record at 4-4, while the Falcons dropped their fourth straight game and fell to 2-6 in MAC competition.
Joining Davis in double figures for the Flashes were Jalen Sullinger (18), Cian Medley (12) and Marquis Barnett (10).
Marcus Johnson topped BGSU with 21 points, followed by Javontae Campbell with 16.
Kent State never trailed and built a commanding 41-23 halftime lead. Both teams added 34 points in the second stanza.
The Flashes shot 51.9 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent beyond the arc. Bowling Green connected on 32.1 percent overall and 26.9 percent on treys.
BUFFALO, NY -- Anquan Bolden Jr. broke a 67-all tie with a layup at 1:50 and Buffalo (7-13, 2-6 MAC) held off Central Michigan (9-11, 3-5 MAC) 75-69 Tuesday at Alumni Arena.
The victory was UB's second win in four games after dropping seven straight previous to that. The Chippewas fell for the second time in their last three outings.
Ryan Savol paced UB with 24 points, connecting on 6 of 12 from long distance. Ben Michaels and Tyson Dunn added 12 apiece for the Bulls.
Anthony Pritchard topped CMU with 16 points, followed by Jakobi Heady (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Cayden Valko (11 points).
Buffalo recorded just one more field goal overall, but it had four more 3-point goals.
Central Michigan made 10 of 23 free throws, while the Bulls hit 10 of 17.
ATHENS, OH -- Four Rocket players scored 15 points apiece and two more added 10 each as Toledo (12-8, 6-2 MAC) nipped Ohio (11-9, 5-3 MAC) 86-83 Tuesday at the Convocation Center.
It was Ohio's third loss in the last four games. The Rockets, meanwhile, won for the third time in their last four outings.
The score was tied 12 times and each team had eight leads. Toledo led 47-39 at the break. Ohio's last lead was at 62-61 with 11:26 to go, but UT scored six straight and never trailed after that.
AJ Brown and Jackson Paveletzke shared team-high honors for Ohio with 22 points apiece.
MUNCIE, IN -- The Broncos JaVaughn Hannah and Markhi Strickland tallied 17 apiece as Western Michigan (6-14, 3-5 MAC) nipped Ball State 74-71 Tuesday at Worthen Arena.
It was the fourth loss in the last five games for Ball State (9-11, 3-5 MAC). WMU has won two of its last three.
The Broncos led 41-36 at intermission and were up eight with 8:04 to play. Ball State closed to within one at 64-63, but it could not catch WMU.
Payton Sparks recorded a double-double for the Cardinbals, scoring 19 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Jermahri Hill also had 19, followed by Juanse Gorosito with 10.
Donovan Williams added 16 points to the Broncos cause.
Ball State connected on three more free throws, but the visitors had three more field goals.
OXFORD, OH -- Antwone Woolfolk registered a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds as Miami (15-5, 7-1 MAC) defeated Eastern Michigan (10-10, 4-4 MAC) 89-80 Tuesday at Millett Hall.
It was a bounce-back win for MU, which absorbed its first MAC loss of the year (102-75) Saturday at Akron. The RedHawks remain alone in second place, one game behind UA and a game in front of Toledo. EMU is tied for fifth with Kent State.
