
With the victory, KSU drew even with Ohio (at 4th place) in the conference standings, and the two teams have split their regular season series.
Ohio connected on 61.5 percent from the field and 50 percent outside the arc in the first half, but Kent State was down by just four (44-40) at intermission. The two teams remained locked in a close battle throughout the final stanza. However, Ohio led by four (70-66) with 2:10 remaining.

Ohio's following possession went awry when Cli'ron Hornbeck came away with a steal and dunk to put the KSU up 74-70. Vic Sear's put-back at :11 seconds cut the Bobcat deficit in half.
Ohio quickly fouled and Jalen Sullinger hit both free throws to restore the four-point edge. Shereef Mitchell then drained a trey for Ohio with five seconds left. When KSU was called for out-of-bounds on the in-bounds play, the 'Cats had one last chance to pull out a win. However, Mitchell's 3-point try was well off the mark.
It was one of two Mitchell misses outside the arc as he connected on four of six triples on the way to 25 points to lead Ohio Elmore James and Jackson Paveletzke added 12 apiece.
Joining Medley in double figures for KSU were Jalen Sullinger (18), VanCameron Davis (10), and and Jamal Sumlin (10). Gillespe scored nine points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
Ohio recorded two more field goals and five more treys, but the Flashes went 20-of-23 at the line. The visitors sank 10-of-13.
