TOLEDO, OH -- The hosting Rockets shot 59.7 percent from the floor and broke a four-game losing streak with a 96-82 win over Ohio Friday at Savage Arena.
It was the second straight setback for Ohio, which dropped three of its final four regular season contests.
Javan Simmons hit all 10 shots from the field and both free throws on the way to a game-high 22 points. He also contributed seven rebounds. Joining him in double figures for UT were Sam Lewis (20), Seth Hubbard (17), Sonny Wilson (13) and Bryce Ford (10).
Elmore James led Ohio with 20 points. Shereef Mitchell notched 18 points, followed by Jackson Paveletzke (15) and AJ Clayton (11).
The two teams were tied at 41-all with 1:53 left in the first half, but Toledo took a 47-41 lead to intermission and stayed in front throughout the second stanza.
UT recorded eight more field goals and two more free throws. Ohio had four more treys.
The Rockets owned a 58-40 edge from points in the paint.
BOWLING GREEN, OH -- Western Michigan (12-19, 9-9 MAC) bounced back from Tuesday's one-point home loss to Kent State with a one point (64-63) road win over Bowling Green (14-17, 8-10 MAC) Friday at Stroh Arena. Both teams will be heading to next week's MAC Men's Basketball Tournament. WMU faces Kent State Thursday (6: 30 p.m.). Bowling Green gets top-seeded Akron (Thursday, 11 a.m.).
The Broncos held a 33-32 lead at intermission. BGSU remained close through the second half and tied the contest at 63-all on two Javontae Campbell free throws with 17 seconds left.
After a Falcons foul with two seconds remaining, Chauncey Willis Jr. hit the first of two free throws. After a time-out, WMU got off one more shot, but it was off the mark.
JaVaughn Hannah (18) and Owen Lobsinger (17) led the Broncos with a combined 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Marcus Johnson and and Derrick Butler led Bowling Green with 20 points apiece.
KENT, OH -- After trailing by five at intermission, Kent State (21-10, 11-7 MAC) rallied for a 76-70 win over Eastern Michigan (16-15, 9-9 MAC) Friday at the M.A.C. Center.
Both teams will have qualified for next week's MAC Men's Basketball Tournament. KSU will face Western Michigan Thursday (6:30 p.m.). The Eagles are matched against No. 2 seed Miami.
A Christian Henry's free throw at 2:48 pulled EMU even at 68-68. However, Kent State scored eight of the final 10 points.
Jalen Sullinger (18 points) and VonCameron Davis (16 points) topped the Flashes. Henry led EMU with 18 points. Jalin Billingsley (15) and Yusuf Jihad (14) followed with a combined 29 points and 10 rebounds.
Kent State had one more field goal and four more treys. Both teams hit 17 free throws, with the Eagles sinking 17 of 18 from the stripe.
AKRON, OH -- Nate Johnson and Isaiah Gray scored 14 points apiece to lead Akron (25-6, 17-1 MAC) past Buffalo 88-70 Friday at James A. Rhodes Arena.
It was the fourth straight win for UA, which lost only one conference game this season. The top-seeded Zips will face No. 8 seed Western Michigan Thursday (11 a.m.) in the MAC Men's Basketball Tournament opener. Buffalo (9-22, 4-14 MAC) finished 11th in the standings and did not make the eight-team tourney field.
Akron built up a commanding 47-24 lead by intermission and cruised in for the victory.
Ben Michaels and Ryan Sabol topped the Bulls scorers with 14 apiece.
MOUNT PLEASANT, MI -- Northern Illinois' 11-game losing streak came to an end in dramatic fashion Friday when the Huskies edged Central Michigan (14-17, 7-11 MAC) 83-81 in double overtime Friday at McGuirk Arena.
The Huskies (6-25, 2-16 MAC) led 30-25 at intermission, and the two teams were locked within a few points through most of the second half. A jumper by NIU's James Dent Jr. tied the game at 68-all with 11 seconds left and the two teams soon went to overtime. That extra period ended with the scored tied at 74-74.
Anthony Prichard's basket with 17 seconds remaining in the second overtime period tied the game again at 81-all. However, Dent hit the deciding basket with one second on the clock to give NIU the victory.
Dent led all scorers, registerig 36 points on the night. Joe Munden Jr (13) and Kailon Nicholos (10) also reached double figures for the Huskies.
Jakobi Heady (20) led five Chippewas in double figures. He was followed by Ugnius Jarusevicius (17), Kyler Vanderjagt (17), Cayden Vasko (13) and Prichard (10).

OXFORD, OH -- Friday was Senior Night at Millett Hall, and Miami's only senior made the most of it. Dan Luers scored Miami's first seven points and finished with a total of 18 points as the RedHawks defeated Ball State 79-66.
Sophomore sharpshooter Kam Craft led MU with 19 points. Fifteen of those points came from beyond the arc, where MU went 13 for 36 on the night. Although that was a modest 36.1 percent, Ball State made just 3 of 21 (14.3 percent) from long distance.
