According to USA Today, Boise State announced Monday that it was pulling out of the Arizona Bowl due to COVID issues. A scramble ensued and now Central Michigan will face Washington State Friday in Sun Bowl action. The opening for CMU emerged when Miami (FL) withdrew due to Covid issues.
One plus, according to CBS Sports, is potential for a bigger payday for the schools involved. While the Arizona Bowl check figured to be about $350,000 per team, the Sun Bowl could distribute more like $4.5 million. Bowl paydays are especially important for mid-major programs.
