Defense, run game lead Bulls to Bowl victory
NASSAU, BAHAMAS -- Buffalo's defense dominated Liberty and Upton Bellenfant booted four field goals to lead the Bulls past LU 26-7 in Bahamas Bowl action Saturday at Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.
It was the fifth straight win for UB, which finished the year with a 9-4 record. Liberty dropped to 8-4.
While the UB offense totaled 359 yards on the day, it scored just one TD. That came on an Al-Jay Henderson 45-yard run in the third quarter.

. . . Flames to a total of 242 yards. That included 80 yards passing as LU quarterbacks completed just 6 of 21 attempts. Nate Hampton found Reese Smith for a 36-yard TD that was Liberty's only score of the contest.
Smith was also intercepted once, and that turned into a touchdown going to other way as Red Murdock returned it 31 yards for UB's final score with 12:09 remaining. It was one of three turnovers by the Flames, who also lost two fumbles.
Most of Buffalo's offense came on the ground as the Bulls ran 56 times for 222 yards and a score. Henderson provided 119 of those yards on 21 trips.
Quarterback C.J. Ogbonna completed 9 of 19 passes totaling 137 yards.
Bellenfant led all scorers, converting one PAT and field goals from 52, 43, 20 and 45 yards.
