With their offense humming along, the Buffalo Bulls will try to make it three straight wins Wednesday when meet a struggling Eastern Michigan team. The Eagles have lost their last three outings and four of the last five, but they need just one more win to reach bowl eligibility.
Buffalo and EMU have split the last eight meetings in the series. The Bulls have won their last two trips to Rynearson Stadium (2022, 2019).
BUFFALO (6-6, 4-2 MAC)
>> At the start of the season, it was the defense that carried the Bulls. But the off ense has come into its own in recent weeks.
>> The Bull averaged 46.0 ppg over their last two games -- both wins. They also averaged a robust 35.8 ppg over the last five outings, when they went 3-5 against MAC opponents.
>> Buffalo is coming off a 51-48 overtime win over Ball State. The Cardinals led 45-31 with 7:08 to play. However, UB quarterback C.J. Ogbonna then ran 28 yards for one score (2-point try failed) and passed 33 yards to JJ Jenkins for another score at 1:49. Ogbonna's pass to Jake Orlando on the PAT tied the game at 45-all.
After BSU was forced to settle for a field goal to start the overtime, Buffalo took just two plays to claim victory. Ogbonna hit Lamar Sperling on a 14-yard pass for the winning score.
>> Ogbonna finished the day with 19 completions on 27 attempts, good for 264 yards and three TDs with two INT. He also ran seven times for 55 yards and two scores.
>> Jenkins (8 catches, 131 yards, 1 TD) and Victor Snow (6 catches, 74 yards, 1 TD) led UB receivers.
>> Junior Al-Jay Henderson recorded his second straight game exceeding the century mark, carrying 27 times for 126 yards with two TDs.
>> Standout linebackers Red Murdock (19 tackles, 9 solo) and Shaun Dolac (17 tackles, 7 solo, 1 interception return for 42 yards) led the Bulls defense.
>> Through 10 games, Shaun Dolac has 137 tackles and 12.5 tackles for
loss. He leads the nation in tackles. He is averaging 13.7 tackles per game. He has had double-digit tackles in every game this season.
>> Kobe Stewart has made an immediate impact with the Bulls since transferring from Samford in the off season. The junior edge leads the team and the MidAmerican Conference with 7.5 sacks
EASTERN MICHIGAN (5-5, 2-4 MAC)
>> The Eagles have lost three straight. After losing by just four to Akron and by one to Toledo, EMU was stifled against a tough Ohio defense last week.
>> Eastern Michigan's only touchdown was an 18-yard second quarter pass from Cole Snyder to Delbert Mimms III. It was the game's first points. Ohio tallied the next 21 points before EMU added a fourth quarter field goal for its final score.
>> Ohio quarterback Parker Navarro was the key problem for EMU as he ran 13 times for 106 yards and four TDs. He also completed 22-of-32 passes totaling 277 yards.
>> Eagles QB Cole Snyder connected on 18-of-30 passes, good for 155 yards, one TD and three picks.
>> Oran Singleton led EMU receivers with five catches for 70 yards. He also registered three catches for a total of 21 yards with one score.
>> Mimms topped EMU rushing with 16 carries for 71 yards.
>> The Eastern defense has recovered 10 fumbles this year - an average of one per game - and sit tied for second nationally with Oklahoma while Duke leads the FBS with 11 recoveries.
Not only have the Eagles taken the ball 10 times with fumble recoveries, they have done so with 10 different players collecting one recovery each.
>> Through 10 weeks of play in the FBS, the Eagles are among the best in the nation when it comes to taking care of the ball. Entering the game with Ohio, Eastern ranks 20th nationally in turnover margin at 0.78 per game and 15th nationally in turnovers lost with seven.
OHIO at TOLEDO -- 7 p.m. -- ESPN2
Two football heavyweights will square off Wedneday when Ohio visits Toledo in the Glass Bowl. Neither team can afford a loss in a tough battle for a MAC Championship game berth. Going into Tuesday night's game's there was still a chance for a six-way tie for first place.
Ohio is one of three teams with just one loss. That was to Miami (5-1 MAC) who faces two rugged challenges in the final two matchups -- Northern Illinois Tuesday night and Bowling Green Nov. 29.
Ohio finishes at home against Ball Sate Nov. 29, while Toledo ends its regular season at Akron.
Toledo leads the series with Ohio, 33-21-1. The Rockets have the last two
meetings, including 14 of the last 16 games dating back to 1989.
Their last meeting was in the 2022 MAC Championship game, which UT won 17-7.
OHIO (7-3, 5-1)
>> The Bobcats have won three straight since falling to Miami back on Oct. 19. Both sides of the ball have been impressive, with the defense allowing just 6.6 ppg and the offense producing 41.0 ppg during the win streak.
>> Ohio is coming off a 35-10 win over Eastern Michigan. The Bobcats out-gained EMU 433-266 overall.
>> The Bobcats forced four turnovers while commiting just one. Tank Pearson recorded two interceptions and Ben McNaboe picked off one pass for the Ohio defense. Dustin Johnson had 10 tackles (7 solo).
>> Quarterback Parker Navarro had a huge day, running for 106 yards and four TDs, while passing for another 277 yards with one pick. He connected on 22-of-32 pass attempts.
>> Coleman Owen led Ohio receivers with eight catches for 139 yards.
>> Ohio ranks first among MAC teams in MAC-play scoring defense (15.2 ppg) and is fourth in scoring offense (33.3 ppg MAC).
>> The Bobcats are a MAC best 215.8 ypg (MAC) in rushing offense and second in run defense (97.0 ypg MAC). They are ninth in passing offense (198.2 ypg MAC) and third in passing defense (163.2 ypg MAC).
TOLEDO (7-3, 4-2 MAC)
>> The Rockets bounced back from their Oct. 26 loss to Bowling Green with wins over Eastern Michigan (29-28) and Central Michigan (37-10).
>> Toledo forced five turnovers to support its win over CMU. Nasir Bowers and Avery Smith recorded interceptions, with the former returning his pick 45 yards for a TD. Jackson Barrow, Esean Carter and Braden Awls pounced on fumbles.
>> Quarterback Tucker Gleason completed 13-of-23 passes totaling 136 yards with one TD. He also led Rocket rushers with eight carries for 66 yards and two scores.
>> Jacquez Stuart ran eight times for 65 yards.
>> Ten Rockets caught at least one pass. Jerjuan Newton led the way with three receptions totaling 40 yards.
>> Freshman Dylan Cunanan made three field goals for the second time
this season.
>> Gleason is second in the MAC in passing yards (225.8) and TD passes (19). He leads the MAC in total offense (255.6), and is third in passing efficiency (141.02).
>> Senior Jerjuan Newton is first in the MAC and tied for third in the country with 10 TD receptions. Newton is third in the MAC with 823 receiving yards.
>> Junior Vandeross is fourth in the MAC with 58 receptions.
>> Avery Smith leads the MAC with 14 passes defended (2 interceptions,
12 breakups) and is tied for third in the country with 1.4 passes defended per game
