# AKRON 21, TOLEDO 14
BUFFALO 43, KENT STATE 7
AKRON, OH -- Preseason MAC favorite Toledo (7-5, 4-4 MAC) went down for a second straight week and Akron (4-8, 3-5 MAC) won two straight for the first time in 2024 as the Zips edged UT 21-14 in overtime Tuesday at Inforcision Stadium.
The Rockets out-gained UA by 137 yards overall and had 12 more first downs (30-18), but Toledo committed the game's only turnover and missed three field goals. The last of those attempts came from 29 yards out as time expired.
That sent the game to overtime, and Akron scored a TD in one play when quarterback Ben Finley pulled up from a rollout to hit Charles Kellom for the score.
Toledo reached the Akron four on its possession, but CJ Nunnally IV sacked Rockets QB Tucker Gleason on fourth down to preserve the Zips victory.
After knocking off rival Kent State last week, Akron finished the seson with two straight wins -- its only winning streak of the campaign. After falling to Ohio last week, Toledo fell in two straight weeks for the first time this year.
Akron scored the first half's only TD at 10:47 of the first quarter when Finley hit Ahmarian Granger on a 72-yards pass play. Neither team scored again until Tahj Bullock's 1-yard run at 13:57 put the hosts up 14-0.
Toledo finally got onthe board with its next possession. Tucker Gleason hit Anthony Torres with a 7-yard pass that capped an 85-yard drive. Another Gleason pass -- this one for 19 yards to Jerjuan Newton at 3:26 tied the contest at 14-all. Toledo got one more chance after that, but its field goal try was off target.
