KENT STATE, OH -- Hosting Kent State scored first on an 80-yard pass play, but Akron scored 38 of the next 41 points on the way to a 38-17 win Tuesday at Dix Stadium.
The Wagon Wheel Trophy win was Akron's third victory of the season, while Kent State remained winless on the campaign.
The Zips used a balanced offense, picking up 250 yards through the air and 277 on the ground. KSU registered 229 yards passing but was limited to 52 yards rushing.
Akron QB Ben Finley connected on 14-of-29 pass attempts (250 yards, 1 TD). Adrian Norton topped UA receivers with five catches for 107 yards.
Jordon Simmons (11 carries, 113 yards) and Charles Kellom (19 carries, 104 yards, 1 TD) led the run game. Tahj Bullock chipped in 35 yards and two TDs among his 10 rushes.
Kent State QB Tommy Ulatowski completed 12-of-20 pass attempts totaling 229 yards with two TDs and one interception. luke Floriea and Chrishon McCray combined for six catches, 196 yards and two scores.
MOUNT PLEASANT, MI -- Central Michigan's defense held in-state rival Western Michigan (5-6, 4-3 MAC) to 184 yards of offense while the Chippewas edged WMU 16-14 Tuesday at Kelly/Short Stadium.
B.J. Harris scored on a six-yard run in the first quarter and CMU (4-7. 2-5 MAC) added two Tristan Mattson field goals in the second period for a 13-0 halftime advantage.
Western Michigan finally got on the board -- albeit on a defensive play -- in the third period. Tate Hallock's 78-yard pick six pulled the Broncos within one score (13-7).
Mattson booted his third field goal of the game early in the final quarter. That proved to be the winning score after Western Michigan registered its only offensive TD of the game in a Jalen Buckley one-yard run with 7:15 to go.
Chippewas QB Jadyn Glasser completed 8-of-17 passes, good for 140 yards with one interception. Soloman Davis led CMU receivers with three catches for 73 yards. Marion Lukes led Central Michigan rushing with 15 carries for 93 yards.
Western Michigan's Hayden Wolff completed 13-of-23 passes totaling 126 yards. Kenneth Womack caught four balls for 41 yards and Buckley carried 12 timmes for 50 yards and a TD.
OXFORD, OH -- Wide receiver Javon Tracy's 30-yard TD pass to Reggie Virgil was part of a 17-point first half run that helped propel Miami (7-4, 6-1 MAC) to a 20-9 win over Northern Illinois (6-5, 3-4 MAC) Tuesday at Yager Stadium.
