Aside from a 48-41 shootout loss against Western Michigan Oct. 19, Buffalo's offense sputtered during October. The Bulls averaged 16.5 ppg in losses to Toledo (30-15) and Ohio (47-16). The Bulls, however, will be facing Akron this week, and the Zips have surrendered an average of 33.8 ppg in 2024.
A win would break a two-game losing streak for UB. Akron, meanwhile, is coming off a victory over Eastern Michigan. That broke a four-game losing streak.
The Bulls have won six straight games against Akron. This is the second straight season Buffalo and Akron will meet at InfoCision Stadium.
The Bulls defeated the Zips, 13-10, in overtime on Sept. 30, 2023. This is the second straight season Buffalo and Akron will meet at InfoCision Stadium. The Bulls defeated the Zips, 13-10, in overtime on Sept. 30, 2023.

AKRON ZIPS (2-6, 1-3 MAC)
The Zips rolled out to an 18-0 halftime lead but needed a late touchdown to nip Eastern Michigan last week.
Three straight EMU scores put the Eagles up 21-18 midway through the fourth stanza. However, Ben Finley hit Adrian Norton on a 21-yard scoring strike with 3:59 for the game-winner.
>> Finley completed 12-of-22 passes totaling 121 yards with one TD and one INT. Tahj Bullock connected onf 2-of-3 for another 36 yards.

Rynearson Stadium -- Ypsilanti, MI
After last week's home loss to arch-rival Bowling Green, the Toledo Rockets now have two MAC losses. A preseason favorite to again reach the MAC Championship game, Toledo can ill afford another setback. They'll be facing an EMU team that also lost last week . . . and likewise has two losses.
Toledo leads the series with EMU, 38-13. The Rockets are 21-3 in the last 24 meetings with the Eagles, including a 49-23 win at Toledo last year. Toledo has won seven of the last eight meetings in Ypsilanti, with the most recent loss coming in 2018.
TOLEDO ROCKETS (5-3, 2-2 MAC)
>> The Rockets never led last week against BGSU but pulled within two on a Tucker Gleason-to-Jerjuan Newton 64-yard scoring strike at 8:42 of the third period. A two-point try failed, leaving the visiting Falcons up 28-26.
>> Bowling Green scored the game's final 13 points on two field goals and a TD.
>> Toledo committed the game's only two turnovers. One of them resulted in a 64-yard interception return for a score.
>> Tucker Gleason returned to the lineup and completed 30-of-45 passes totaling 320 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs.
>> Newton and Junior Vandeross III led Toledo receivers with a combined 20 catches for 270 yards and two scores.

>> Avery Book averaged 47.8 yards per boot (on of 52) on four punts.

Kelly/Shorts Stadium -- Mount Pleasant, MI
Bowling Green has won two straight, and its latest win has the Falcons tied with Miami and Ohio for second place in the Mid-American Conference standings. BGSU does not face Ohio this year, but finishes the regular season at home against MU.
Central Michigan, meanwhile, has lost three straight and is facing a gauntlet of strong teams down the stretch. Getting to six wins (and bowl eligibility) is beginning to look even more uncertain.
BOWLING GREEN (4-4, 3-1 MAC)
The Falcons have won two straight and three of their last four. The only loss in that stretch was a 17-7 setback against Northern Illinois. BGSU bounced back with two wins, including a 41-26 road triumph over arch-rival Toledo last week.
>> Although UT held a 422-402 advantage in total offense, Bowling Green forced two turnovers. Both were interceptions by Jordan Oladokun, who helped the Falcon cause further with 61 return yards and a TD.
>> Toledo trailed 28-20 at intermission but scored on a 64-yard pass play midway through the third quarter. The two-point try failed, leaving BGSU in front 28-26. The Falcons finished their rival off with 13 unanswered points down the stretch.
>> Connor Bazelak completed 17-of-27 passes, good for 171 yards and two scores.
>> Harold Fannin Jr. led receivers with six catches for 74 yards and a TD.

>> Joseph Sipp led Falcon defenders with 11 tackles (10 solo) and two TFL.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN (3-5, 1-3 MAC)
The Chippewas have lost three straight. The first two were by a total of seven points. The third was decisive, with CMU absorbing a 46-7 loss at Miami.
>> No small part of the problem is injuries. With Joe Labas out, the Chippewas have turned to Tyler Jefferson. He completed 7-of-17 for 62 passing yards against Miami. Normally, CMU could count on a robust running game for more. However, the stingy RedHawks defense limited Central Michigan to 106 rushing yards with one TD.
>> Central Michigan registered just 168 yards of total offense against Miami. Much of that came on the Chippewas first drive, which covered 15 plays and covered 75 yards. The finishing touchdown was CMU's only score of the day.
>> Miami managed a total of 518 yards and season-high 46 points.
>> Senior RB Marion Lukes (5-9, 210) ws held to 25 yards on 15 carries (1.7 ypc). He had at least 110 yards rushing in each of the previous two games and is averaging 4.9 ypc on the year.
>> Jefferson, a freshman QB had eight carries for 37 yards to lead CMU rushing against Miami.
>> The Chippewas receiving corps is one of the hard-hit areas with injuries.

Aside from MAC-undefeated Western Michigan, Miami has become one of the hotter teams in the MAC. Winners of three straight, the RedHawks have made themselves relevant again in the battle for a MAC title game berth.
For now, each of those three wins were huge. They helped MU regain control of its own destiny. If, however, MU loses Tuesday, the value of those three victories drops to ... well, A LOT less. Why? Because even one more MAC loss for Miami could knock the RedHawks out of contention.
While the defending MAC champs may be gaining some notice, their opponent on Tuesday has been flying under the radar while proving to be a very tough out.
