While the 'Cats have won three of their last four, EMU has dropped three over the same span. Although most weren't lopsided losses, the Eagles nonetheless own just one MAC win and two total victories with four games to go.
• • • • • OHIO (4-3, 2-1 MAC) is coming off a 48-21 win over Northern Illinois. The Bobcats led 14-0 after one period and 21-8 at intermission. They outscored the visiting Huskies 27-13 in the second half.

TOLEDO AT WASHINGTON STATE (3:30 P.M., CW NETWORK)
If it seems weird to play a non-conference game this late in the season, well ... yes, it is. However, Washington State is operating as an independent until next year's new PAC-12 begins. As UMass knows, filling out an independent schedule is not the easiest of tasks, but so be it. The Rockets obliged for thier fourth non-conference game, and UT visits WSU this week. Toledo returns to MAC play Wednesday Nov. 5 against (currently one-win) Northern Illinois.
• • • • • WASHINGTON STATE (3-4) opened the season with wins over Idaho (13-10) and San Diego State (36-13).
The Cougars two most recent games were losses to No. 4 Ole Miss (24-21) and No. 18 Virginia (22-20).
• Washington State appeared to be in control with a 20-10 third quarter lead over Virginia, but the UVA scored 10 straigh points to tie the contest.
When WSU began its post-kickoff drive at its own 2-yard line, that opened the door for trouble. After two incompletions and a penalty, Virginia tackled Kirby Vorhees in the end zone for a decisive safety.
• The Cougars had five more first downs and a 17-yard edge in total yardage. However, in addition to the safety, they had two turnovers.

BALL STATE AT NORTHERN ILLINOIS (3:30 P.M., ESPN+)
Will the ebbs and flows of Ball State's offense continue this week. With Northern Illinois on the schedule, the answer is a definite "Maybe."
After upsetting Ohio Oct. 4, the Cardinals were blanked by defensive stalwart Western Michigan 42-0 the following week.
Facing Akron last Saturday, BSU erupted for a 42-28 win. This week, Ball State gets Northern Illinois. The Huskies have been stingy at times, such as a 6-3 loss to San Diego State and a 10-6 loss to Eastern Michigan. Then there is last Saturday's Huskie team, which surrendered a whopping 48 points at Ohio.
Aside from the points fluctuation, NIU has been consistent in one area. They are losing. In fact, they are riding a six game losing streak, with their only win coming in Week 1. All three Ball State wins have been in Muncie. NIU is home this week. Can it stop the slide?
• • • • •  BALL STATE (3-4, 2-1 MAC) After the lopsided loss at Western Michigan, the Cardinals pulled out a 42-28 victory over Akron last Saturday. It was still a three-point game (28-25) after three quarters. BSU then out-scored the Zips 14-3 in the final stanza.
•  Akron out-gained BSU 419-374 overall and had seven more first downs (24-17).
• Kiael Kelly completed 10 of 19 for 121 yards with one TD and one INT. Junior WR Ty Robinson completed another pass, adding 37 yards for a team total of 158 passing yards.
• Koby Gross led the Cardinals with three catches totaling 81 yards with one score.
• Junior RB Qua Ashley (5-10, 191) picked up 143 yards on 20 carries (7.2 ypc) with one TD. It was his most productive performance since Week 1 (154 yards, 2 TDs against New Hampshire).
• Kelly added 19 carries for 58 yards and three rushing TDs.
• Ball State's defense recorded four sacks and five TFL. Joedrick Lewis and Roman Pearson both picked off an Akron pass.
• When Akron closed to within seven points (35-28) in the fourth quarter, TJ Horton returned the following kickoff 90 yards for a TD.
• Ball State ranks 11th (MAC) in scoring (17.7 ppg) and is 10th in scoring defense (31.0 ppg).
• The Cardinals offense is eighth in rushing (143.6 ypg) and 12th in passing ( 128.9 ypg).
• • • • • NORTHERN ILLINOIS (1-6, 0-3 MAC) fell behind early at Ohio. The 'Cats were up 21-0 early in the second period and 21-0 at intermission. NIU was out-scored 27-13 in the second half.
• Ohio had a 538-293 advantage in total offense and 27-15 edge in first downs.
• NIU quarterback Josh Holst completed 21 of 29 pass attempts totaling 161 yards with two scores.
• Junior Dearee Rogers (5-11, 200) led the Huskies with seven receptions for 107 yards and a TD. Fifty of those yards came on a third quarter touchdown.
• The Huskies rushed for 132 yards and one TD. Telly Johnson Jr. led the way with 11 carries for 64 yards, while Holst added 48 yards on 11 carries of his own.
• Quinn Urwiler led NIU with 12 tackles (5 solo). James Finley recorded an interception.
• The Huskies are 12th among 13 MAC teams in scoring 12.3 ppg) and fifth in scoring defense 24.3 ppg).
• NIU ranks sixth rushing offense (154.1 ypg)  and 13th/last in passing offense (108.6 ypg).

MASSACHUSETTS AT CENTRAL MICHIGAN (3:30 P.M., ESPN+)
The search for win No. 1 continues Saturday as UMass visits Central Michigan. The winless Minutemen will face a CMU team that bounced back with a victory at Bowling Green last week. The Chippewas have won three of their last four and are two wins away from bowl eligibility. However, the CMU schedule gets tougher down the stretch.
• • • • • MASSACHUSETTS (0-7, 0-3 MAC) flirted with a big upset last week. The Minutemen led 21-17 with 5:37 remaining in the third quarter, but UB pulled out the victory with a third quarter field goal and touchdown with just 19 seconds to go.

• Jeremiah McGill picked off a Bulls pass. Tyler Martin and Derrieon Craig notched 12 tackles apiece to lead the Minutemen defense.
• • • • •  CENTRAL MICHIGAN (4-3, 2-1 MAC) has won three of its last four games. After falling at Akron Oct. 4, the Chippewas picked up a road win at Bowling Green last week.
• CMU did not allow a touchdown in the 27-6 win, holding Bowling Green to a pair of first half field goals.
• Although the Chippewas recorded  just three completions (3/5) and 73 yards through the air, they managed 203 yards rushing.
• Angel Flores led CMU with 18 carries for 72 yards and scored all three Chippewas touchdowns. Nahree Biggins added 10 carries for 43 yards.
• Collin Payne's one reception covered 63 yards.
• LB Jordan Kwiatkowski recorded 14 tackles (7 solo) and 2.5 sacks.
• CMU ranks seventh among MAC teams in scoring. (22.6 ppg) and is eighth in scoring defense (25.6 ppg).
• The Chippewas offense is third in rushing (190.6 ypg/4.3 ypc) and 11th in passing (139.1 ypg). CMU has the least passing attempts (127)) of any team. The next closes is Ball State (148).

WESTERN MICHIGAN AT MIAMI (3:30 P.M., ESPN+)
By MIKE SMITH

It could be the biggest game of the season.
That's right. As much as RedHawk fans look ahead to the rivalry matchup against Ohio -- especially when both teams are doing well -- this week's Miami versus Western Michigan contest could be more important.
Just how important remains to be seen as the next month is PACKED with big games.
Three teams . . .  CONTINUE
