With both teams owning 3-5 overall records, the challenge for reaching bowl eligibility is to win three of the remaining four games. Considering each has won three games over eight previous outings, the odds might not be great.
In any case, both programs need wins, and Kent State seems to have a somewhat favorable November schedule. In addition to Ball State, the Flashes face rival (@) Akron, Central Michigan and (@) Northern Illinois.
Ball State finishes with Eastern Michigan, (@) Toledo and @ Miami.
It's worth noting that all three BSU wins this year have been at home, and all five losses were on the road. That should at least make visiting Kent State a little cautious.

It's back to MAC play for Toledo Wednesday as the Rockets host Northern Illinois. Although UT is 2--2 in conference play, the Rockets are certainly talented enough to go on a November run. After NIU, they must visit Miami (4-0 MAC) but then finish with Ball State and Central Michigan.
