The Falcons and Minutemen wrap up 2025 with both teams trying to snap a losing streak. For Bowling Green, a win would snap its current five-game skid. Massachusetts, meanwhile, is winless this year. With four losses to close 2024, the Minutemen have dropped 15 straight.
• • • • • MASSACHUSETTS (011, 0-7 MAC) ranks last among MAC teams in both scoring (10.8 ppg) and scoring defense (38-0 ppg).
• The UMass offense ranks last in rushing (83.6 ypg) and is eighth in passing.
• The Minutemen have surrendered at least 42 points in each of their last three games.
• UMass is coming off of a 42-14 loss at Ohio.
The Minutemen took an early 7-0 lead but gave up 21 straight points before intermission. Another UMass TD closed the gap midway through the third quartr, but the 'Cats again responded with 21 straight points.
• Ohio outgained the visitors 391-215 overal, but both teams recorded 17 first downs.
• The Minutemen committed three turnovers, while Ohio had just one.
• UMass QBs Grant Jordan (10.21, 56 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) and Brandon Rose (5/6, 34 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) combined for 90 passing yards, 2 scores and a pair of picks.
• Owen Anderson and Elijah Pedro each caught one pass, but both were touchdowns. No Minutemen receiver had more than 21 receicing yards.
• Brandon Hood topped UMass rushing (125 yards) with 39 yards on 10 carries.
• Ohio ran for 363 yards but passed for just 28 yards.
• • • • • BOWLING GREEN (3-8, 1-6 MAC) has lost five straight. Three of the last four were by six points or less.
• The Falcons were tied 6-6 with Akron last week and led 13-9 with 3:53 left in the third quarter. The Zips then scored 10 straight points, including seven with a 75-yard TD pass. A late Falcons field goal was not enough to pull out a win.
• The two teams combined for five turnovers, three by visiting Akron.
• The Falcons drew seven penalties for 90 yards.
• Freshman Hunter Najm completed just 9 of 26 pass attempts totaling 138 yards with one TD and two interceptions.
• Jyrin Johnson registered three catches totaling 63 yards. Jacob Harris had one TD among his two receptions for 29 yards.
• BGSU rushed for 134 yards, including 110 by Austyn Dendy on 22 carries.
• The Falcons rank 10th among MAC teams in scoring ofense (18.3 ppg) and eighth in scoring defense (25.2 ppg).
The Broncos can punch their ticket to the MAC Championship game with a win Saturday at Eastern Michigan.
Western Michigan has only one conference loss, so it could possibly get in with a loss, but that would complicate things. The Broncos have won three straight, although two were by a total of seven points.
Eastern Michigan, meanwhile, has won its last two outings. At 4-7, it can't reach bowl eligibility, but finishing with three straight victories -- the last against a rival -- might give EMU some momentum heading into the offseason.
• • • • • EASTERN MICHIGAN (4-7, 3-4 MAC) is coming off a 24-9 win at Ball State. The Eagles led 17-3 at intermission. They added a fourth quarter TD, while BSU added a pair of second half field goals.
• Noah Kim completed 18 of 29 pass attempts, good for 229 yards with one TD and two interceptions.
• Senior Jamarien Wheeler led EMU receivers with six catches totaling 131 yards with one TD.
• Eastern Michigan rushed for 151 yards. Dontae McMillan led the way with 21 carries for 80 yards.
• The EMU defense recorded four sacks and eight TFL. Joshua Scott picked off a Cardinals pass.
• The Eagles defense limited BSU to 62 yards passing.
• Eastern Michigan ranks fifth in scoring ofense (24.4 ppg) and is 11th in scoring defense (29.6 ppg).
• The Eagles offense is eighth in rushing (143.3 ypg) and is second in passing (226.4 ypg).
• • • • • WESTERN MICHIGAN ((7-4, 6-1 MAC) has won three straight since falling at Miami back on Oct. 25. The Broncos are coming off a 35-19 win over Northern Illinois.
The Huskies jumped out to a 13-0 lead. However, WMU scored two second quarter TDs for a 14-13 lead at intermission.
Three more Bronco touchdowns followed before a late NIU score.
• The Huskies totaled just 78 yards passing (1 TD).
• QB Broc Lowry threw just nine passes, completing five for a total of 32 yards with one interception.
• Western Michigan rode its run game for 361 yards and five touchdowns -- three by Lowry and two by Jalen Buckley.
• Buckley logged 24 carries for 133 yards. Devin Miles had 14 carries for 105 yards, while Lowry added 100 yards on 13 trips.
• The Bronco defense recorded two sacks and seven TFL.
• Western Michigan is seventh among MAC teams in scoring offense (23.0 ppg) and second in scoring defense (18.5 ppg).
• WMU's offense ranks second in rushing (181.1 ypg) and is 11th in passing (146.2 ypg).
