After last week's upset loss to Akron, Buffalo needs to get back in the win column. Bowling Green, meanwhile, is looking for its second victory since Sept. 13.
• • • • • BUFFALO (4-4, 3-1 MAC) had flirted with conference losses to struggling opponents in its two previous weeks but escaped with wins. Five turnovers set the stage for last week's 24-16 home loss to Akron (who had three turnovers).
• In addition to a combined eight turnovers, the two teams combined for 13 penalties, 118 yards.
• The Bulls scored one touchdown on the day , but led 8-3 at intermission. While UB managed just one field goal in each of the remaining periods, Akron struck for three touchdowns.
• Ta'Quan Roberson completed 23 of 36 passes totaling 266 yards with one TD and four interceptions.
• Junior Nik McMillan led Buffalo receivers with eight catches for 177 yards.
• Al-Jay Henderson logged 11 carries for 67 of UB's 91 rushing yards.
• Senior Red Murdock recorded 13 tackles, including 1.5 sacks.
• The Bulls recorded five sacks and eight TFL. However, they yielded five sacks and 10 TFL.
• • • • • BOWLING GREEN (3-5, 1-3 MAC) f(ell at Kent State (24-21) despite outgaining the Flashes 379-294 overall.
• The Falcons were up 21-3 midway through the third quarter, but KSU finished with three touchdowns.
• Bowling Green senior Baron May saw his first action of the season, completing 12 of 22 passes for 142 yards and one touchdown. Hunter Najm added two competions for 30 yards.
• Jyrin Johnson and RJ Garcia II combined for six catchesand 101 yards
• The Falcons ran 50 times for a total of 207 yards and two TDs. Austyn Dendy led with 20 trips, 93 yards and one score.
• Bowling Green ranks eighth among MAC teams in both scoring (20.1 ppg) and scoring defense (25.4 ppg).
• BGSU ranks seventh in rushing (151.0 ypg) and ninth in passing (165.0 ypg).
• The Falcons are fifth against the run and sixth defending the pass (209.4 ypg)
A pair of 3-1 (MAC) teams will battle in Kalamazoo Saturday. The Broncos were riding a four-game winning streak before falling at Miami last Saturday. With Ohio (also 3-1 MAC) next on the schedule, WMU needs a victory this week.
The Chippewas, meanwhile, have posted two wins since falling at Akron Oct. 4. Saturday, however, figures as a particularly tough challenge.
• • • • • WESTERN MICHIGAN (4-4, 3-1 MAC) rode its defense again last week, holding Miami to three field goals over three quarters. However, after carrying a 17-9 lead into the fourth quarter, WMU gave up 17 unanswered points.
• The Broncos held Miami fo 4 of 12 on third down while converting 8 of 17 WMU chances.
• Western Michigan did not draw a penalty and had one turnover -- the game's only turnover.
• QB Broc Lowry completed 16 of 28 passes, totaling 172 yards with one TD. He also led Bronco rushing with 20 carries for 82 yards. Jalen Buckley added another 45 yards on 10 carries.
• Talique Williams topped WMU receivers with five catches, 71 yards and one TD. Aveion Chenault added four receptions totaling 65 yards.
• Devin Miles had a big day returning kicks. His seven returns totaled 218 yards and included a 72-yard gallop that set up a touchdown.
• The Broncos rank seventh among MAC teams in scoring (22.1 ppg) and are second in scoring defense (18.8 ppg).
• Western Michigan's offense is sixth in rushing (155.5 ypg) and 10th in passing (162.5 ypg).
• • • • • CENTRAL MICHIGAN (5-3, 3-1 MAC) has won four of its last five outings.
• CMU outgained UMass 502-292 in last week's 38-13 Chippewas win.
• After an early 7-7 tie, Central Michigan scored 17 straight points on the way to a 24-10 halftime edge. The Chippewas added fourteen more third quarter points, while UMass hit a field goal. Neither team scored in the final stanza.
• Quarterback Joe Labas completed 10 of 11 for 148 yards and two TDs. Angel Flores connected on two passes adding 75 yards.
• Brock Townsent contributed 78 yards and a touchdown among two catches. Langston Lewis had 57 yards on two receptions.
• Nahree Biggins (10 carries, 94 yards) and Trey Cornist (15 carries, 70 yards) topped CMU rushers.
