Akron at Buffalo indefinitely postponed
Conference details tie-breaker policy

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference football game between the University of Akron and the University at Buffalo has been postponed indefinitely due to severe weather conditions and area travel restrictions in the Buffalo, N.Y. area.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19 at 3:30 pm ET.
“Despite the best efforts of all involved, it is not feasible to . . .

. . . play the football game between Akron and Buffalo on Sunday,” said MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher. "The game has been postponed indefinitely. The safety of the student-athletes and fans is paramount.  We want to be respectful of the efforts of the emergency service personnel in the Buffalo area who are working to assist those in need.”

As a result of the postponement, if necessary, the conference will utilize its uneven number of games tiebreaker policy. The policy was created for situations when multiple teams (a) have the same number of losses but different win totals, (b) have a total games played differential of no more than one (1) game, and (c) have played each other at least one time.

A decision regarding rescheduling the contest will be made during the week of Nov. 20-26.

East Division Scenarios:

~~ With an Ohio win over Bowling Green …
Ohio (7-1) will be the outright East Division Champion and will head to the MAC Football Championship Game.

~~ With a Bowling Green win over Ohio + Kent State win over Buffalo…
Bowling Green (6-2) and Ohio (6-2) will share the East Division title and Bowling Green will advance to the MAC Football Championship Game due to its head-to-head win against vs. Ohio.

~~ Tiebreaker Scenario Using Uneven Number of Games Tiebreaker Policy

With a Bowling Green win over Ohio + Buffalo win over Kent State
Bowling Green 6-2 (.750)
Ohio 6-2 (.750)
Buffalo 5-2 (.714)

~~ First tiebreaker: Head-to-Head record amongst tied teams
a. All three teams split the head-to-head series during the regular season (1-1)

~~ Second tiebreaker: Winning percentage vs. ranked division opponents (top to bottom vs. East Division common opponents)
b. Bowling Green, Buffalo and Ohio each defeated Miami (1.000)
c. Bowling Green & Ohio lost to Kent State (.000), while Buffalo would have defeated Kent State (1.000) in this tiebreaker scenario.
d. Buffalo wins tiebreaker and will advance to MAC Football Championship Game
