# NORTHERN ILLINOIS 24, CENTRAL MICHIGAN 16
KALAMAZOO, MI -- Hosting Western Michigan (6-6. 5-3 MAC) opened scoring with a safety and benefitted from three Eastern Michigan turnovers while posting 26-18 victory over the Eagles Saturday at Waldo Stadium.
With the victory, WMU broke a three-game losing streak and reached bowl eligibility. Eastern Michigan (5-7, 2-6 MAC) fell just short with its fifth consecutive loss .
WMU ran for 230 yards and two TDs on the day as Zahir Abdus-Salaam (19 carries, 135 yards, 1 TD) and Jalen Buckley (19 carries, 103 yards, 1 TD) led the way. Quarterback Hayden Wolff also contributed a TD while completing 12-of-17 for 126 yards.
Eastern Michigan also leaned on its running game,recording 36 rushes for 203 yards. Delbert Mimms III led the ground attack with 18 carries for 127 yards and two scores.
Meanwhile, EMU managed just 91 yards through the air as Cole Snyder completed 7-of-22 with one interception.
Neither ream scored in the first quarter, but the Broncos tallied 16 straight points in the final 3:41 of the second period. The rally started with a blocked punt safety. Abdus-Salaam then scored on a 31-yard run on the following WMU possession and Buckley added a 15-yard TD run with 19 seconds left before intermission.
Mimms III scored two EMU TDs in the third period, with a Bronco touchdown in between.
Western Michigan led 23-15 after three quarters, but each team managed just one field goal in the final period.
DeKALB, IL -- Northern Illinois (7-5, 4-4 MAC) scored 19 first quarter points and never trailed while holding off Central Michigan (4-8, 2-6 MAC) 24-16 Saturday at Huskie Stadium.
NIU out-gained the visitors 332-204 overall, limiting the Chippewas to 92 yards passing while keeping CMU scorless in all but the second quarter.
Huskies quarterback Ethan Hampton completed 19-of-29 passes for 169 yards. He also ran for one score Trayvon Rudolph led NIU receivers with nine catches totaling 97 yards.
Telly Johnson Jr (20 carries, 84 yards) and Gavin Williams (6 carries, 65 yards) both scored TDs and led the NIU ground game.
Central Michigan QB Jadyn Glasser connected on 12-of-25 pass attempts totaling 92 yards with two TDs and one pick. Both touchdown passes went to Jesse Prewitt III, who finished with five receptions and 37 yards.
Marion Lukes averaged 6.0 ypc, logging 13 rushes totaling 78 yards. Myles Bailey added another 28 yards on six trips.
Northern Illinois broke in front early, scoring three rushing TDs in the first quarter.
Central Michigan got on the board with Jesse Prewitt's III's first TD at 13:44, but the PAT was blocked. JaVaughn Byrd then returned it for a two-point defensive conversion that left the Huskies in front 21-6.
CMU added a field goal and TD before intermission, pulling the Chippewas within five. However, Northern Illinois scored the game's final points on a 26-yard Kanon Woodill field goal at 6:13 of the third quarter.
