Sam Sloman kicked three first half field goals and Miami added two second half touchdowns as the visiting RedHawks edged Kent State 23-16 Saturday at Dix Stadium. It was the second straight win for Miami, setting up a showdown against Ohio Nov. 6. KSU fell a game back, but now has losses to both Ohio and Miami.
The RedHawks never trailed against Kent State, but were unable to pull away in a defensive struggle. Both teams also hurt their own causes with turnovers (2 each) and penalties (MU 11 for 101, KSU 12 for 100).
Freshman Tyre Shelton keyed the Miami rushing attack with a career-high 14 carries for 148 yards. Junior Jaylon Bester, stymied most of the day, broke loose on a 47-yard run with 3:19 remaining to seal Miami's win.
Quarterback Dustin Crum led KSU, completing 23 of 44 passes for 209 yards with one interception -- his first of the season. He also rushed for a team-high 64 yards.

Eli Peters hit Drew Rosi with a 15-yard TD pass in overtime to give Toledo a 37-34 victory Saturday at the Glass Bowl.
UT (5-3, 2-2 MAC) owned a commanding 31-10 lead midway through the third quarter, but Eastern (4-4, 1-3 MAC) put together a furious rally with three straight touchdowns to force overtime.
After Chad Ryland hit a 24-yard field goal to open OT scoring, Toledo answered with a touchdown to post its first win after two straight losses.
Bryant Koback keyed the Rocket offense, carrying 32 times for 259 yards (8.1 ypc) and a pair of touchdowns. The hosts had 366 yards rushing overall and just 128 passing as Eli Peters completed 9 of 18 attempts with two TDs.
Eastern Michigan, meanwhile, threw 37 passes, with Mike Glass II completing 21 or 286 yards and a TD. The Eagles got three more from their run game, including two by Shaq Vann as he made 20 trips for 110 yards.

Jaret Patterson rushed for 149 yards and a TD, while Kyle Vantrease tossed two scores as Buffalo (4-4, 2-2 MAC) defeated Central Michigan (5-4, 3-2 MAC) Saturday at UB Stadium.
Trailing 7-3 early, the Bulls scored 21-straight second quarter points to seize control. After a Chippewas touchdown, Buffalo scored 13 unanswered points to build a commanding 36-14 advantage. Each team added one more touchdown.
While the total yards were relatively close (UB 376, CMU 345), the Chippewas committed five turnovers to just one by Buffalo. Kadofi Writ's 40-yard interception return closed scoring.
The loss ended a three-game winning streak by CMU and cost the Chippewas a chance to tie Ball State atop the MAC West standings.

Tre Harbison provided 158 yards and two touchdowns as NIU rushed for 274 yards on the way to a route of winless Akron.
Harbinson's run total, in fact, was more than Akron managed in total offense (145 yards). The Zips also committed three turnovers, one of which was a fumble in their own end zone for a Huskie TD.
Both teams completed seven passes, but the Huskies threw just nine, while Akron attempted 26 aerials.
After taking a 7-0 lead into the second period, Northren Illinois added 14 points in each of the final three stanzas while evening its MAC record at 2-2.

Senior quarterback Nathan Rourke passed for two touchdowns and ran for another two scores as visiting Ohio (4-4, 3-1 MAC) knocked off West-leader Ball State (4-4, 3-1 MAC).
The Cardinals were the MAC's last unbeaten team in conference play and were fresh off a dominating win over Toledo last week. Ohio, however, never trailed. The Bobcats broke a 7-7 tie with two Louie Zervos field goals in the second quarter and went up 20-7 with a Tuggle 11-yard run at 9:47 of the third stanza.
Ball State quickly responded with a 73-yard Walter Fletcher gallop, but Ohio scored two more rushing touchdowns to take 34-14 lead before the Cardinals scored a late TD.
Fletcher carried 14 times for 156 yards and a score to lead the hosts.
Rourke and O'Shann Allison both eclipsed 100 yards rushing for the 'Cats.

BGSU led through one quarter, 3-0, but Western Michigan exploded for 21 points before halftime and then outscored the hosts 28-7 in the third quarter while cruising to victory.
The Broncos did most of their damage on the ground, amassing 399 rushing yards with six touchdowns off of 57 carries. Levante Bellamy scored four of those TDs while registering 178 yards on 17 trips.
