YPSILANTI, MI -- Seniors Da'Sean Nelson and Jalen Terry scored 25 points apiece to lead Eastern Michigan (15-14, 8-8 MAC) over Central Michigan (13-16, 6-10 MAC) 84-73 Friday on senior night at the Gervin Game/Above Center.
Nelson also recorded 10 rebounds and five assists. Christian Henry (13) and Jalin Billingsley (10 points, 9 rebounds) added a combined 23 points to the Eagles cause.
Ugnius Jarusevicius topped CMU with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jakobi Heady knocked down 10 of 12 free throws while scoring 21 pints. Anthony Prichard added 15.
In addition to having two more field goals overall, EMU connected on nine more treys. The Chippewas owned a slight edge at the line with two more made free throws.
The Eagles moved in front early and led 36-44 at intermission.
AKRON, OH -- Tavari Johnson (18) and Nate Johnson (14) combined for 32 points as Akron (23-6, 15-1 MAC) came from behind to defeat rival Kent State (19-10, 9-7 MAC) 77-72 Friday at James A. Rhodes Arena.
The Flashes were up 38-32 at intermission, but UA went up 52-51 on a James Okonkwo layup at 11:49.
Kent State quickly reclaimed the lead and was up 63-54 with 7:47 to play. Akron mounted a final charge and moved in front a final time with 2:27 to play. Nate Johnson's two free throws left put UA in front 70-68. A 7-4 advantage down the stretch gave the Zips a five-point win.
With the victory, Akron secured the regular season MAC title. Kent State is a half game behind Toledo and Ohio for third place, pending Saturday's action.
Jalen Sullinger led KSU scoring against Akron, connecting on 7 of 17 from the field in a 19-point performance. Marquis Barnett contibuted 14 and Delrecco Gillespie added 10 points.
Kent State made just 4 of 16 (25%) shots from beyond the arc and was 10 of 16 (62.5%) at the free throw line.
Akron made seven threes, albeit on 26 tries (26.9%). The Zips were 14 of 19 from the stripe.
