
Saturday's winner of the Ball State at Akron match-up will put that program up a game in the all-time series. Both schools own 11 wins, with one game ending in a tie. The Zips pulled out last year's meeting and will attempt to make it two straight in the series while gaining some momentum in MAC play. UA is coming off a win over Bowling Green last week.

As for the Ball State Cardinals, they had won two of their last three games before heading into Kalamazoo to face the defending conference champion Western Michigan Broncos. WMU dominated the visiting Cardinals, 55-3.

● After going 2-2 in non-conference play, the Cardinals opened MAC play last Saturday at Western Michigan and were beaten by the Broncos 55-3
● BSU’s offense is averaging 24.8 points per game and 366.0 yards. The offense is led by Riley Neal, who has completed 66.7 percent of his passes (67-of-99) for 659 yards, with six touchdowns and three interceptions.
● Their running game is paced by Caleb Huntley, who has 259 yards and three touchdowns, as wells as James Gilbert. The latter has provided 207 yards, as well as three scores. Gilbert rushed for 1,232 yards a season ago.
● The receivers are led by Justin Hall, one of the top freshman in the Football Bowl Subdivision, with 35 receptions for 431 yars and two touchdowns. The offensive line has allowed seven sacks.
● The Cards defense through five games has allowed 31.2 points and 372 yards per game. The unit has registered 15 sacks and five interceptions.
●The defense is led by senior DE Anthony Winbush who leads the FBS with seven sacks and is second in tackles for losses with 10.5. In additionm he leads the Cards with 31 total tackles (16 solo).
● The Zips ended a two-game losing streak overall and an eight-game losing skid to the Bowling Green Falcons last Saturday evening with a 34-23 at Doyt Perry Stadium
● UA led for most of the game. The Zips, however, were trailing late in the third quarter 23-20 when senior QB Thomas Woodson’s 11- yard touchdown run put UA in front for good. Woodson passed for 168 yards and two touchdowns and added 24 rushing yards to go along with his score
● Van Edwards led the rushing attack with 70 yards on 14 carries, while A.J. Coney led the receivers with five catches for 42 yards and a touchdown
● The defense was led by LB Ulysses Gilbert with 11 total tackles (eight solo) and a sack.
● DB Kyron Brown’s 38 yard interception return for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter sealed the victory for the Zips and helped him earm MAC East Defensive Player of the Week honors.
