Can the Buffalo Bulls end a four-game losing skein that includes a pair one-point losses.?
Those questions will be answered – one in the affirmative – Tuesday night when the Falcons and Bulls battle in Buffalo.
Being on the road might . . .
Bowling Green erupted for a season-high 44 points while limiting the Flashes to just 16 last week. Freshman Jarret Doege got the start for BG, completing 14 of 18 pass attempts for 174 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Freshman Andrew Clair led a ground game that piled up 227 yards and provided three TDs. Clair carried just eight times, while gaining 111 yards with one score. He is the first true freshman in school history to rush for 100+ yards in four straight games.
Senior Josh Cleveland was the workhorse, logging 17 trips for 60 yards and a TD.
Defensively, the Falcons picked off three Kent State passes and pounced on one Flashes fumble. Bowling Green now leads the country with 13 fumble recoveries and 240 fumble return yards. The Falcons are third nationally in total turnovers forced with 21.
Bowling Green has earned six consecutive wins over Buffalo, with the last loss coming in 2010. BG owns an 11-3 advantage in the all-time series.
Buffalo’s last win this year was against Kent State (27-13) back on Sept. 30. The Bulls were on a roll at that time, and defeating KSU was Buffalo’s third straight win. However, UB then dropped four straight. Only one of those losses was by more than three points.
Buffalo held a 20-14 fourth quarter lead over MAC East co-leader Akron last week before the Zips pulled out their win with a late touchdown.
The Bulls actually out-gained UA 454-367 and had nine more first downs (28-19).
Quarterback Tyree Jackson, who missed four full games returned to action against Akron and had a busy night. He completed 34 of 50 tries for 313 yards with one interception.
Six UB receivers caught at least four passes, with senior Kamathi Holsey hauling in seven balls for 100 yards.
Sophomore Emmanuel Reed topped Buffalo rushers 116 yards on 28 carries. He also registered two touchdowns.
