The Central Michigan Chippewas are finishing the 2017 season strong. They have won three consecutive games and four of their last five to become bowl eligible for the third consecutive season. It is the 10th time in the last 12 campaigns.

THE SERIES
Tuesday evening’s tilt is the 35th lifetime meeting between the two schools with the Chippewas holding a 23-11 edge. This is the third consecutive year these two teams have met.
Kent State has won two of three most recent meetings, including last season in Mount Pleasant 27-24. Shane Hynes kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired.
This is the 18th lifetime game in Kent, with CMU holding an 11-6 advantage. Central won the last meeting at Dix Stadium in 2015, 27-14
CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS (6-4, 4-2 MAC)
► Last week, CMU picked up its third straight win as it defeated Eastern Michigan at Kelly Shorts Stadium 42-30. Sophomore RB Jonathan Ward rushed for 159 yards and scored two touchdowns.
► Through its 10 games this season, CMU is averaging 28.3 points and 386.9 yards per game on the offensive side of the football.
► At the offensive controls is graduate student Shane Morris. He came to CMU after receiving his degree from the University of Michigan and has completed 55.5 percent of his passes (193-of-348) for 2,364 yards and 21 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. In addition, he has rushed for three scores.
► Ward leads the ground attack with 761 yards and seven touchdowns. He has averaged over 100 yards per game during the Chippewas’ winning streak. Senior WR Mark Chapman leads the receivers with 47 catches for 646 yards and three scores, while the offensive line has allowed only 14 sacks.
► Defensively, the Chippewa, have allowed 27.4 points and 378.6 yards per contest. They have picked up 21 sacks and 16 interceptions
► Junior LB Malik Fountain leads with 74 total tackles (42 solo). Senior DE Joe Ostman has 10 sacks and 13.5 tackles for losses, while senior safety Josh Cox has five interceptions.
KENT STATE GOLDEN FLASHES (2-8, 1-5 MAC)
► Last week, the Flashes dropped their fifth consecutive game, falling at Western Michigan 48-20
► KSU used both of its quarterbacks against WMU. Junior George Bollas completed 11-of-22 for 102 yards, while freshman Dustin Crum completed both of his passes and also led the team in rushing with 80 yards and a touchdown.
► Sophomore RB Justin Rankin had five receptions for 18 yards, along with a pair of touchdowns on the ground.
► The defense was led by junior LB Jim Jones and James Alexander, each of whom had eight total stops (seven solo).
► The KSU defense has 10 interceptions (by seven different players) so far this season, ranking in the top 30 in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
► Tuesday’s game is the final home game for 15 seniors who will be honored before the game
► The Flashes will end the season next Tuesday, traveling to nearby Akron to battle the arch-rival Zips for the Wagon Wheel Trophy.
