● Of course, Kansas will probably need to bring some answers on defense. The Jayhawks are smarting from a 45-27 thrashing from visiting Central Michigan last week. The Chippewas rolled up 590 yards of offense, including 467 yards and five touchdowns through the air.
● Junior quarterback Peyton Bender completed 32 of 62 passes (51.6%) against CMU, but he did not throw a touchdown after tossing four the previous week in a 38-16 win over Southeast Missouri State. Bender owned two interceptions in each game.
● Senior tight end Ben Johnson is the leading Kansas receiver, with 10 catches for 147 yrds and a score.
● Freshman Dom Williams (5-10, 190) is the Jayhawks top rusher with 28 carries totaling 105 yards (3.8 ypc) with three touchdowns. He also owns five receptions for 42 total yards.
● The ‘Cats opened their season strong with a 59-0 thrashing of Hampton. Last week, however, they were victims of Purdue’s offensive resurgence under new head coach Jeff Brohm. The former Western Kentucky HC got his first Purdue victory with a 44-21 decision over Ohio.
● Purdue rolled up 558 yards of total offense and was aided by two Ohio turnovers – both fumbles.
● Purdue used a balanced attack, totaling 295 passing and 263 via the ground game (which averaged 6.0 ypc).
● Ohio managed 396 yards against the Boilermakers, with another 173 on the ground.
● Sophomore Nathan Rourke took most of the snaps at quarterback, completing 16 of 23 for 211 yards and a score.
● A.J. Ouellette is the ‘Cats to rusher, carrying 23 times for 101 yards and a TD. Rourke and freshman Julian Ross both have three touchdowns on the season.
● Freshman Cameron Odom and junior Papi White lead OU with a combined 16 catches, 242 yards and two scores.
