
The Western Michigan Broncos look to bounce back Wednesday against Kent State after losing for the second straight game at home last week, this time to Central Michigan.
The defeat . . .
However, WMU still has an outside chance to gain at least a share of the crown as they play UT on the final week of the season. In any case, the Broncos are still one win away from bowl eligibility.
The Kent State Golden Flashes, meanwhile, limping toward next season as they have lost two straight after falling at home to Bowling Green last week.
THE SERIES
Thursday’s afternoon tilt is the 65th lifetime meeting between the two schools with the Broncos holding a 34-20-1 advantage. WMU has won three of the last five meetings in the series, including last season’s tilt at Dix Stadium, where they came from behind for a 37-21 victory

>>> Last week, the Broncos lost to Central Michigan at home 35-28 after leading 21-7 at halftime. It was a 28-14 Western lead going into the fourth quarter, but the Chippewas scored 21 unanswered points down the stretch.

>>> There was a fresh face at quarterback last week as true freshman Reece Goddard got his first collegiate start against CMU. He replaced sophomore Jon Wassink, who suffered a broken collarbone in the win over Eastern Michigan. Goodard went 6-of-18 for 42 yards with an interception
>>> Senior RB Jarvion Franklin leads Western ground game with 870 yards and nine touchdowns.
>>> Sophomore WR Keishawn Watson leads the receivers with 33 catches for 288 yards and six touchdowns. The offensive line has allowed 14 sacks.
>>> The Brown, and Gold defense is allowing 28.4 points and 388.4 yards through the five games. They have registered 16 sacks and seven interceptions
>>> Senior LB Asantay Brown leads the defense with 65 total tackles (32 solo). Rob Spillane leads in tackles for losses with 7.5, while freshman DE Ali Fayad has 2.5 sacks. Senior CB Darius Phillips and Sam Beal each have two interceptions
WMU leads the MAC in rushing offense with 244.4 yards per game and ranks 17th in the Football Bowl Subdivision
